You must have heard the famous quotation,”Politics is the last resort of a scoundrel”. Though it is not true in ALL cases,it is used since long.

Similarly, the last resort of young boys who ran away from homes to Bombay in the 30s and 40s (and may be even today) was Hindi Films. For a growing Film industry there was a need for actors, singers, writers, technicians etc. Quantity was always available but quality was questionable. This field did not attract the educated gents from good families. So, whenever any educated i.e. a Graduate joined the industry, he was most welcome and he too would flaunt his degrees proudly. Thus you had a Lyricist named Moti,B.A. and Miss Kamal,B.A. in those days.

Today (6 november) is the 27th death anniversary of Sanjeev Kumar. When most of his contemporary actors were content to get typedcast in certain kinds of roles and would spend their entire career playing the same kinds of role, Sanjeev Kumar would play just about any kind of character that he was offered. Sanjeev Kumar played roles of deaf and dumb (Koshish), pimp (Manoranjan), Old man (in several movies), mad (Khilona) etc. His star value remained undiminished, no matter what kind of roles he played in his movies.

This aricle is written by Pamir Harvey, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a contributor to this blog.

Going through Atul’s index of movie-wise songs I was astonished to find that so many film titles begin with “Mr.”. One “Mr.” title though I didn’t find there and that was Mr. Romeo (1974) . Till 2003 I hadn’t even known that such a movie existed till I saw its score on Music India Online. R. D. Burman has given the film a good score. He usually did that to for-us-now obscure films. It seems to be the launching vehicle for the leading lady Rinku Jaiswal. I think this was her only movie.
