“Akeli Mat Jaiyyo” (1963) was no great shakes as a movie. even people as patient as Raja (a regular of this blog) found this movie insufferable when he watched this movie and felt obliged to inform me of this fact when we met last year.

“Sunahre Qadam” (1966) is an obscure movie despite being of relatively recent vintage by the standards of this blog. This movie was a Saraswati Kala Mandir presentation. It was directed by Satish Nigam and its star cast consisted of names like Shashikala, Agha, Sabita Chatterjee, Randhir, Rehman who hardly held any star appeal to attract ordinary movie goers to the movie halls. So it should come as no surprise that the movie failed at the box office.

I had not heard of this movie called “Pagle” (1950). This by now obscure movie had actors like Sherry, Jagirdar, Begum Para, Agha Jan, Pratima Devi,Cuckoo etc in it.

It is difficult to imagine how Mukesh (of dard bhare naghme fame) would sound on Mehmood (known for loud comedy). Well, stereotyping aside,we actually have instances of Mukesh singing for Mehmood.

Here is a party song from a movie called “Bade Sarkaar” (1957). This movie, from its cast does not appear an A grade movie, seeing that Agha and Sajjan are the lead actors in this movie.

It was sometime in 1940s that the tradition of “piano” songs began, where the hero/ heroine would be asked to sit in front of a piano and sing a song in a get together, organised in the palatial residence of the hero/ heroine.

I thought that I had posted songs from “Sharada” in the past. It turns out that I was confusing “Sharada” with “Sadhana”. Yes, those days we had movies with names like “Sharada”, “Sadhana”, “Kalpana” etc which were also the names of some well known actresses. Incidentally, the actress with the same name was nowhere to be found in these movies.
