Posting writeups during journey is turning out to be more difficult than I thought on this return journey. I was hoping that I would be able to discuss several songs in this return journey but so far I have been unable to do so. With difficulty, I have managed to post one song so far. “Kismat” (1943) is a movie which was produced by Bombay Talkies Ltd, Bombay. Gyan Mukherji was the producer and the star cast had Ashok Kumar, Mumtaz Shanti, Shah Nawaz, Moti, P.F.Pithawala, Prahlad, Harun, Mubarak etc. This movie was India’s first multi starrer movie and also the most successful movie of those days. This movie was the original lost and found movie which was then copied and emulated in countless number of movies for several decades to come.

Today (25th october) is the death anniversary of Sahir Ludhianvi. Sahir Ludhainvi, a stormy petrel among Hindi movie lyricists, stirred quite a few hornets’ nests’ during his time, which are well documented and which have been discussed in this blog too from time to time.

“Aakaash” (1953) was a Manmohan Films production, where Manmohan stood for Manmohan Sabir. He was the director of this movie as well. The movie had actors like Badri Prasad, Balraj Sahni, Nadira, Shammi, Manmohan Krishna, Agha, Jilloo etc.

“Anokha Pyaar” (1948) was an Ambika Films Company production. It was directed by M I Dharmsen. The movie had Kesari, Dilip Kumar, Nargis, Nalini Jaywant, Mukri, Ved, Uma Dutt, Habib, Sheikh, Sankatha Prasad etc in it.

“Taraanaa” (1951) is a Dilip Kumar- Madhubala starrer. This movie is studded with songs that are remembered to this day. when I checked up, I have discussed as amny as eight songs from this movie. That leaves only one song that is not yet discussed.

“Kismat” (1943) has the distinction of being India’s most successful movie at the box office (it ran for three years at one movie hall) before its record was broken by “Sholay” (1975) (it ran for five years in one movie hall). “Kismat” (1943) really must have caught the imagination of the public at that time. And its music definitely played a big role in bringing movie watchers to the movie halls.
