Question-Answer (Sawaal-Jawaab) songs and its variant, teasing (Ched-Chaad) songs have a special place in Hindi films. These songs are generally duets of male and female voices and are my favourites in the genre of light songs. These songs are sometimes also composed in qawaali style. One can enjoy these songs doubly when the video clips of such songs are available and directors like Guru Dutt, Vijay Anand etc were involved in the picturisation of these songs.

‘औ’
“औरत के दिल पे क्या गुजरे, इंसान भला क्या जाने”

History, they say, is like the view that a traveler takes, when he decides to pause and rest, and then take a look back over the path that he has come. In literal terms, that path, and hence the view, stretches back for miles and miles. Having reached where he is, all he can see now is what is visible from a distance – the high mountains, or tall trees, or big pockets of habitation, or the large rivers, and other prominent landmarks that can still be seen from the vantage point where he now stands. What is not visible are the individual people he may have met and interacted on the way, the small roadside tea shops where he may have rested and had a snack, or the homes of friends, or even a tree, where he may have spent a peaceful night. There may be memories in the mind, but those are not now visible to the eyes. And a plethora of other small landmarks and events and experiences, that are no longer very sharp in the memory.

Missing Films of 1960s – 8
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –

I am really incensed. Generally that does not happen easily, but today it has. Going thru the list of un-represented films from 1960s, the next target film for me was ‘Hawa Mahal’. I already looked for the 78 rpm records of this film, and have drawn a blank. From more than one source, I was informed that no records were manufactured for this film. Disappointing as this information was in itself, I was concerned, but not too much. Because I knew that I have this film with me on disk. So when the time came to prepare a post for the film ‘Hawa Mahal’, I took out video file of the film, with the intent of listening to the songs and to prepare a upload version of one of them.
