In 1950s, there were a few movies where Johny walker was the hero and O P Nayyar was the music director. One of these movies was in fact called “Johny Walker”.

I have not watched the movie “Tum Haseen Main Jawaan” (1970) but going by the songs of this movie, I think this movie was one whose story was quite over the top.

The movie “Jab pyaar kisi se hota hai” (1961) had music by Shankar Jaikishan, lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri, songs by Rafi and Lata, the lead actress was Asha Parekh. All that this movie needed was Shammi Kapoor.

While listeneing to the songs of old movies, we often praise the singer and/ or the music director, but many of us tend to underestimate the contribution of the lyricist. However great a tune, or however wonderful a voice may be, unless the singer gets a good well written song, it is not very likely that the song is going to catch the imagination of the public.

“Qaidi no 911” (1959) was a “B grade” movie in the sense that it was an action thriller and it had Sheikh Mukhtar as action hero. When I say it was a B grade movie, I mean no disrespect. In fact, I think movies like this with Sheikh Mukhtar as hero were as good as the A grade action movies of 1970s. Yes, action movies had begun to be regarded as A grade by 1970s.
