Blog Day :

5137 Post No. : 17094

Today (11 August 2022) is Rakshabandhan. This is the 15th Rakshabandhan for this blog. The first Rakshabandhan for the blog fell on 16 August 2008. That day saw the iconic Rakshabandhan song namely Bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana (Chhoti Bahan)(1959) getting covered on the blog.

On those early days, only one song was discussed in a day. Subsequently multiple songs began to be covered daily. Festival days were no exception. So more than one Rakshabandhan songs were also discussed in the subsequent occasions.

Till now as many as 24 Rakshabandhan songs have been covered on the blog. Most of these songs (if not all) are sung in the female voice and lip synced by a female character playing the Rakhi tying sister.

The Rakshabandhan song under discussion today is different in quite a few respects. It is sung by a male singer. It is a “sales pitch” song where Rakhi is being sold. The song is sung by Amit Kumar (though HFGK is silent about the name of the singer). It is picturised on Vinod Khanna disguised as an old Rakhi seller. So this song is a “disguise” song as well. Rakesh Roshan and Pradeep Kumar are also seen in the picturisation.

This song is from ‘Hatyaara’ (1977). The movie was produced by Sunil Sharma and JR Shah and directed by Surendra Mohan for Sunil Arts, Bombay. The movie had Vinod Khanna, Moushumi Chatterjee, Rakesh Roshan, Priyadarshini, Nirupa Roy, Pran, Dev Kumar, Man Mohan, Kanahiyalal, Raj Mehra, Chand Usmani, Abhi Bhattacharya, Sunder, Gulshan Bawra, Sahu Modak, Johny Whisky, Sabeena, Shyam, Shefali, Rajkumar, Premji, Bihari, Moolchand, Hamid, Raj Malhotra, Rajkishore, Nazir Kashmiri, Omi, Harun Khan, CL Shah, Jugnu, Kedarnath Sehgal, Chandrima Bhaduri, Baby Prerna, Master Bittu, Master Raju, Master Rajesh Valecha etc. The movie also had guest appearances by Pradeep Kumar, Laxmi Chhaaya and Mehmood.

The movie had five songs in it. One song has been covered so far.

Here is this second song from ‘Hatyaara’ (1977). The movie had three lyricists in it but the lyricist of this song is no known. This song only appears in the movie. Its records were not made. Music direction was by Kalyanji Anandji.

I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the missing details of the song (viz lyricist).

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Hullo Atuldom

My last post on the blog mentioned that Moushumi Chatterjee had co-starred Vinod Khanna in a few movies. Today’s song is from one such movie.

“Hatyara” (The Murderer- 1977) was a movie which was directed by Surendra Mohan and produced by Sunil Sharma and J.R. Shah. Its cast consisted of Vinod Khanna (in a double role), Priyadarshini, Moushumi Chatterjee, Rakesh Roshan, as the romantic couples and Pran, Nirupa Roy, Raj Mehra, Chand Usmani as the elders, Kanhaiyalal, Manmohan, Dev Kumar were the spoilsports of the story. The cast also has Abhi Bhattacharya, Shahu Modak (in a blink and miss appearance), Gulshan Bawra and Rajesh Khanna in a special appearance. Pradeep Kumar, Mehmood and Laxmi Chhaya in guest appearances.

Pran and Predeep Kumar played bandits, who accidentally kill a man leaving his wife and son destitute. This sets Daulat Singh (Pran) thinking that it is easy to kill but difficult to rectify the “PAAP”. He surrenders and reforms. He returns from jail to a family of grownup children who are in love and he is only too glad to get the kids married. The hitch or stumbling block for him (Daulat Singh) is his past has caught up with him in the form of Inspector Prakash (Rakesh Roshan) whose mother (Nirupa Roy) recognizes the bandit and refuses to get her son married to a bandit’s daughter. The rest of the story is run-of-the-mill where the families go through the twists and turns that are scripted into the story before the movie ends with the bandit’s grandson being awarded a bravery medal as he (a cop) was instrumental in capturing dacoits.

The titles of the movie says that Asha Bhonsle, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mehmood, Johnny jr. and Shahid Bijnori are the playback singers used for songs written by Visweswar Sharma, Vithalbhai Patel and Shahid Bijnori. Kalyanji Anandji were the music directors assisted by Anil Mohile, Frank and Babla.

27th April is the fourth remembrance day of the very handsome, smart, good looking (his fans can choose the adjective they like) Vinod Khanna. He was a moderately good dancer, emoted well, had a good physique; may not have been like the 6-pack sporting modern youngsters but still well built. He also produced a few movies :- the 1974 release “Farebi” (various sites are calling this movie ‘The Cheat’) was produced by Pramod Khanna so we can say it was Vinld Khanna’s own production and “Himalay Putra” to launch his son Akshaye Khanna in 1997. I don’t know if today’s movie “Hatyara” was his production but the movie opens by paying homage to Smt. Kamladevi Khanna and we know that Vinod Khanna’s mother’s name was Kamla. He began his career playing a small role in Manoj Kumar’s ‘Purab Aur Paschim’; Shammi Kapoor starrer ‘Jaane Anjaane’; villain in Rajesh Khanna’s ‘Aan Milo Sajna’; there were many such movies. He was appreciated in ‘Mere Apne’, ‘Achanak’, ‘Inkaar’, etc. He made a good pair with Amitabh in ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Parvarish’, ‘Khoon Pasina’, ‘Her Pheri’, etc. We saw him share screen space with Dharmendra in “Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, ‘The Burning Train’, ‘Rajput’, and many others. Similarly he was there with Shatrughan Sinha, Jeetendra, Rishi Kapoor, etc and all the actresses of the 70s and 80s have acted with him- that list is long too.

Today’s song shows him dancing with Moushumi Chatterjee at his and his sister Priyadarshini’s engagement. We have the elders of the village as audience. Towards the end of the song Nirupa Roy makes her entrance and I suppose that is where the story of the movie takes a turn. This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar and written by Vitthalbhai Patel.

karta hoon tujhko pyaar
lekin kab tak karoonga tera intezaar
lekin kab tak karoonga tera intezaar

chalo tu bhi na jeeta aur main bhi na haari
donon ban jaayen prem pujaari
donon ban jaayen prem pujaari

arre tere mere pyaar ka hoga
gali gali mein shor

tere mere pyaar ka hoga
gali gali mein shor

sone ka chabootra uspe naache mor
arre hum donon kyun na naachen
jab bandhi preet ki dor
jab bandhi preet ki dor

sone ka chabootra uspe naache mor
sone ka chabootra uspe naache mor
