In this short write-up, I present a duet song, ‘gulaabi nazaare nazaare gulaabi’ rendered by Mohammed Rafi and Suman Kalyanpur from an obscure film, ‘Lakhpati’ (1991). It was the only film produced and directed by Jal Baliwala. The film was certified by Censor Board on April 5, 1991, but it could not get the theatrical release. Later, the film was released on VCD. I have given the story of the film in my earlier article while covering the song, nashe mein choor nazar hai mujhe.
The musical composition of at least three songs including the one under discussion gives a feel of the golden period of Hindi film music of 1960s and I am not completely off the mark. Music director, Iqbal Qureshi came into prominence in the 1960s. Lata Mangeshkar was not singing with Mohammed Rafi in most part of 1960s. The song under discussion is a duet of Rafi with Suman Kalyanpur.

#The Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #

(75 Years of Republic of India #Desh Kee Mittee Kee Khushboo#)
The song in this post is a Non-Film Song, though the name of this movie appears in Geet Kosh Vol-IV (1961-962) under the movies that were not released. It was not an entire film but just a documentary made under the banner of Farida Films. Te foot note on this page for this ‘film’ mentions that Iqbal Qureshi, the composer of the song confirmed that it was just a non film song giving the story of China’s attack on India in the year 1962.

Phir Aane Laga Yaad Wahi Pyaar Ka Aalam
This, and many other iconic compositions flow through the mind when the name Iqbal Qureshi is mentioned. One of that group of hugely talented music directors who never could break into the so called ‘Legendary Club’, no matter so many of his creations have become legends in as of themselves. Starting with his first film ‘Panchaayat’ from 1958 – the iconic duets “Taa Thaiya Karte Aana, O Jaadugar Morey Sainyyan” (Lata and Geeta) and “Haal Ye Kar Diya Zaalim Tere Tadpaane Ne” (Rafi and Lata), and browsing through musical gems of such films as ‘Bindya’ and ‘Love In Simla’ (both 1960), ‘Umar Qaid’ (1961), ‘Ye Dil Kisko Doon’ (1963), the legendary ‘Cha Cha Cha’ and the lilting ‘Qawwaali Ki Raat’ of 1964, ‘Sarhadi Lutera’ of 1966, on to strumming the songs of the unreleased ‘Pyaar Bana Afsaana’, all the way up to ‘Lakhpati’ of 1991. An era that is dotted with lilting creations of Iqbal Qureshi.
Remembering Iqbal Qureshi on his birth anniversary on 12th May. At 6 feet 4 inches, he was arguably the tallest member of the industry in his time.

Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 29
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
This post may likely be the most peculiar one of this series. Here we see a song, or more accurately a song snippet, reused in a most peculiar manner.
The film is ‘Mujhe Jeene Do’ from 1963. Recently, I chanced upon this song snippet, which is part of a song from another film. I have seen this film maybe once or twice earlier, but did not register or remember this song snippet being present in the film. A friend recently brought this to my attention, and I thought of writing this post.

In this article, I have taken up for discussion an obscure film which had taken a long time to complete. The film had a censor certificate dated April 5, 1991, but it appears that the film did not get a theatrical release. Later, the film was released in the VCD format. I am talking about the film, ‘Lakhpati’ (1991). The film is available for viewing on one of the video sharing platforms.

(Muqaable Ki Raat 1970s (UR)) (A tribute to Lyricist – Fauq Jami)
In my earlier post today (10 april 2023) I had mentioned about today being the ‘Remembrance Anniversary’ of lyricist Fauq Jami.
On this occasion we had already posted a song written by him from the movie ‘Guzaaraa-1954’. In all Fauq Jami had written songs for only three Hindi movies viz. ‘Guzaaraa-1954’, ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do-1979’ and one incomplete or un-released movie from the seventies (As per information available on online sources).
