Today (4 january 2016) is the 22nd death anniversary of R D Burman ( 27 june 1939- 4 january 1994). I am amazed to realise that more than two decades have elapsed since R D Burman left us. And it is eqaully surprising to realise that he was almost jobless as a music director by the time he died. His last movie as a music director was “1942, a love story” and its music caught the imagination of music lovers, but R D Burman was not there to savour this success.

Genius of Jaidev – 39
—————————-

Not having seen the film my guess is that this song must have been picturised on the hero of the film, trying to move away from whatever situation he found himself, in a very dejected state.

Shankar-Jaikishen in the 50s
The second song in the series “Shankar-Jaikishen in the 50s” is a duet of Asha and Manna Dey from the film “Baaghi Sipaahi”(1958).
By 1955, with great efforts and difficulties, Shankar Jaikishan came out of the rigouring influence and control of Raj Kapoor on their music compositions. Now they were free to fly high and be the “Numero Uno “.

When I & my siblings were school going kids , we used to make it a point to listen to a program called ‘Anokhe bol’ on Radio Ceylon. Even now we recall those days and laugh our hearts out, because traces of a child will always be in there within us at all times.
