Lata was Madan Mohan’s female singer of choice, but it does not mean that he has not used other female singers in his songs. Curiously enough, Madan Mohan did not use the voice of Lata in the movie called “Bombay Race Course” (1965). The female singers in this movie were Asha Bhonsle and Suman Kalyanpur.

“Yahudi” (1958) is a movie starring Sohrab Modi,Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari. This movie, as the name suggests, is a historical mythological movie of the Roman era of 2000 years ago, where Dilip Kumar plays Roman prince Marcus and Meena Kumari plays a jew called Hannah. Being a Hindi movie adoption, they naturally fall in love and in fact sing lots of songs.

I have discussed songs that are stage songs as well as songs that are mujra songs. Here is an interesting song that combines the two. Yes, this song is a stage mujra song. In other words,this song is a stage song where a mujra is presented after the curtain opens.

It may be unimaginable today for the present generation, but when India became independent over six decades ago, the country was industrially undeveloped and there was hardly any infrastructure to speak of. Indian leadership of that time decided that India needed to adopt the Soviet Union model of planned economy for nation building.
