A change in sequencing – I pulled this song up from later in sequence to today, and I shall explain. This song is simply THE most favorite soft romantic song of mine. This write up is about my search for this song, that suddenly culminated today as I finally located a very recently posted video of this song on YouTube.

With this write up, I initiate a series of posts (at least ten, may be some more) to cover some very wonderful gems, and yet, very obscure and rarely heard songs of Mukesh. Mukesh, a voice filled with magic, a poignant and a simple, unpretentious sound. A voice that attracts with its sweet mellifluous tones. A voice that remains a unique rendition to date. Never up there is the top brackets like Rafi Saab or Kishore Da. And yet, the voice that has left an indelible mark on the Hindi film music. And also bequeathed scores of veritable gems for the listening pleasure of music lovers.

“Ek Raat” (1967) is a movie which was produced by a production house called East and West movies. Rajnath was the director. This B grade movie had Sheikh Mukhtar, Simi Garewal, Madan Puri, Samson, Shyama, Laxmi Chhaya, Ravi Kumar, David Abraham etc in it.

“Madam Zorro” (1962) as the title suggests, is a quintessential B grade movie that was promptly consigned to the dustbin of obscurity. This movie was produced by A D Productions and it was directed by Akkoo. The cast of this movie had names like Nadira, Bhagwan, Azaad, Indira Bansal, Madhumati, Sheikh, Laali etc in it.

“Sartaj” (1950) was an Omar Khayyam Productions movie. this movie was directed by S Khalil. Cast of the movie had names like Motilal, Munawwar Sultana, Cuckoo, Manorama, Ansari, Mirza Musharaf, Shyama, Rattan Bai etc.

When I came across this song for the first time, which was just a few hours ago, I was not aware about the details of this song. It was only when I dug up the information about this movie that I realised that this song is from “Chaand Aur Suraj”(1965).

“Moorti” (1945) is one of those movies are are so obscure that finding its songs on YT is often out of question. So it always comes as a pleasant surprise when one can locate such songs there. And I was pleasantly surprised to see this song already uploaded, though any details on this song were conspicuous by their absence. It is not that I am complaining. With such obscure songs, any small mercies will do.
