It is a song from Malhaar (1951) when all the persons involved in the creation of this song were new in Bollywood industry. Fresh voices of Lata and Mukesh, who were finding their feet in Bollywood sing under the baton of Roshan, himself trying to establish himself as a music director and Shyamlal, who was writing his first lyrics in 5 years. Yes, Shyamlal was the real name of the lyricist who later became better known as Indeewar.

I have posted many Mukesh solo songs in this blog, and most of them were “sad” songs of different denominations and varieties. This particular song is a duet, and moreover, it is not a sad song. So here is a Mukesh song, sung with Lata from “Dharti Kahe Pukaar ke” that can surely qualify to be called a gem.

Listening to this Mukesh song all these years without any additional information, I thought that this song had all the attributes of a Raj kapoor song. It was sung by Mukesh, lyrics looked Shailendra like and music appeared Shankar Jaikishan like, and I was sure that the song was picturised on Raj Kapoor.

I have already posted one memorable nostalgic song from this movie sung by Mukesh and picturised on Dharmendra.

This movie was in fact full of memorable songs. Quite a few of such songs were sung by Mukesh for Dharmendra. Here is another such memorable song.

I have posted different kind of songs in this blog. There is one big category of songs which are sung atop some mode of transportation viz car, train, boat etc. I have noticed that Jeetendra, the jumping jack takes the cake when it comes to singing songs atop different modes of transportation. In addition to the usual modes of man made transportations, he has sung song atop less obvious modes of transportation too. For instance, there was one Jeetendra song sung atop an elephant. I am sure he must have sung songs riding a horse also. He may have missed singing while riding buffalo and donkey though.

Here is a Mukesh song with a difference. Yes, it is not a sad song. It is a happy song.

This song is from a by now forgotten movie called “Naadaan” (1971) and it was picturised on Navin Nischol. This song was reasonably popular at that time. But as I have repeatedly mentioned, 1971 was the year of bumper crop of outstanding songs, and many nice songs found themselves edged out in popularity stakes. In other less competitive times, the same songs would have fared much better.

During the heyday of Radio in India in 1960s and 1970s, there were many popular radio programmes. There was one Radio programme called “Chayageet” on Vividh Bharati daily at 10 PM. The songs played in this song were typically old songs which I as a young kid regarded as boring. There were certain songs which I associated with this programmes. Typically, songs which were “bhoole bisre” and not so popular with the janta were played in this programme.
