C Ramchandra can be easily called the King of Anokhe Bol songs, though he is not who started it.
The first song having Anokhe Bol or meaningless words was composed by the Grand old music Director Madhulal Damodar Master in film ” Hatimtai I “-1933 and the Lyricist was G.R.Sethi who was the film’s director also. The song was ‘ Donga donga dum dum daka adam boka masnam maka’.

When Alam Ara was released in 1931, people were awe-struck. Additionally, there were 7 songs in it. It was a novelty that the moving images on screen not only talked but they also sang. Alam Ara was lauded as a Landmark. One would imagine that there must have been a spate of Talkie films in its wake, but surprisingly only 24 in 1931, 61 in 1932 and 76 films in 1933 were made. This was because silent films were still being made till september 1934. Further the new filmmakers were yet to join the field. After 1934 the number crossed 100 and never stopped again.

People who love music, never grow up – that is my theory. The logic goes like this. A true music lover will never lose the capacity to be thrilled at hearing a new song, a new melody that is fun or poignant, and touches the heart. If a person does not have this characteristic, then it is difficult for that person to appreciate music. Now, being thrilled at something new is a hallmark characteristic of a child. Hence, people who have this capacity and love music, always have a child’s heart and mind within, and hence they never grow up. QED. 🙂

I have said in the past that even the lesser known/obscure songs of the golden era movies were wonderful songs, in case we care to dig them up and listen to them again.

I have come to to the realisation by now that most old Bollywood movies were musical blockbusters by default. It meant that each of these movies had several nice songs contained in them.
