“Chhaliyaa” (1960) is a well known movie. In comparison, few people have heard of “Chhaliyaa” (1973). This movie had Navin Nischol, and an ageing Nanda, and the movie failed to achieve any great success at the box office.

When one speaks of a movie “chhaliyaa”, one is reminded of the 1960 movie starring Raj Kapoor and Nutan which was also the debut movie of Manmohan Desai as a director.

India finally pulled it off. They won the world cup title by defeating Sri Lanka in the final at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 2nd of april 2011.

Aaj sochaa to aansoo bhar aaye

“Hanste Zakhm” (1973) was, not surprisingly (in hindsight) , a commercial disaster. Chetan Anand, the maker of this movie, was so enamoured of Priya Rajwansh that she was the heroine of all his movies, despite her wooden face. No doubt she tried hard, as did others, to perform to the best of their abilities, but this movie had other weak points viz confused storyline, etc.

Madan Mohan is often associated with serious ghazal songs sung by Lata. But Madan Mohan has composed all kinds of songs including light hearted and non serious songs sung by several singers. In fact, the Madan Mohan song that climbed the highest in Binaca Geetmala annual charts in his lifetime was not a ghazal by Lata but a mela song by Asha Bhonsle. It was the hugely popular Jhumka gira re Bareli ke bazaar me from “Mera Saayaa” (1966).
