It was directed by Ramchandra Thakur. I remember the film GARAM COAT(1955) mainly because I had listened to one of its songs ‘jogiyaa se preet kiye dukh hoye’ in my friend’s house sometime in early 70s. Thereafter, I do not remember to have heard this song on the radio or any other medium until a few days back on YT.

“Tangawaali”(1955) was a Kuldeep Pictures presentation. It was directed by Lekhraj Bhakri. The movie had Anita Guha, Balraj Sahni, Nirupa Roy, Shammi Kapoor, Jayant etc. Not much information is available about this movie on internet.

Munshi Premchand (31 July 1880- 8 october 1936) was a premier Hindi novelist whose novels and stories have had an enormous influence on modern Hindi literature. When I look at his literary output, I am amazed at his vision. His vision was unbelievably progressive and futuristic, especially considering the era he lived in (late 19th century to early 20th century).

For many years now, and please correct me if I am making this statement in error – for many years now, I do not recall having seen or heard about a film on mythological theme coming from the mainstream film industry. Maybe it is a sign of time, to be aware of. The industry seems to be getting more and more aligned with a global market and a global audience, that this genre of movie making appears to be dying out. And to think that the film industry started off in the first place with stories and themes based on mythology. Even in the 70s and somewhat in the 80s, some production banners dared to attempt making such films, but in the 90s and after, this genre has pretty much disappeared from the screen.
