It may be unimaginable today for the present generation, but when India became independent over six decades ago, the country was industrially undeveloped and there was hardly any infrastructure to speak of. Indian leadership of that time decided that India needed to adopt the Soviet Union model of planned economy for nation building. A couple of days back I got to see the movie Naughty Boy (1962). It is a comedy starring Kishore Kumar and Kalpana (often remembered as the heroine singing “main chali main chali” with Shammi Kapoor in Professor, or the object of Dev Anand’s “arrey yaar meri tum bhi ho ghazab” in Teen Deviyan).

“Jeewan Jyoti” (1953) is a movie that had Shammi Kapoor, Chand Usmani, Shashikala etc in it. Personally I am not much aware of this movie. In fact, I am not much aware of its songs too. Or so I thought. Just a few hours ago, I stumbled upon this song, which I had heard many a times without being aware of its details. This time I realised that this song was from “Jeewan Jyoti” (1953). In fact, I thought that this song, which is fairly well known, was already in this blog. But I was wrong in my assumption, of course.

I had heard this song a lot during its time. this song was a regular song in Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation’s “aaphi ke geet” programme broadcast in the morning from 8 AM to 9 AM. In addition, this song was a popular loudspeaker song as well.
