Here is one more song of the popular unofficial genre viz “how come this song was not posted earlier” 🙂 . During my younger days I was only into listening current songs and any song created before 1968 was old song for me. then one fine day in mid 1970s I decided to become mature, viz. become interested in old songs. It was then that I learnt about O P Nayyar. The fact that he made his career without using the voice of Lata voice impressed me a lot. Then I heard O P Nayyar compositions from movies like “CID”(1956), “Naya Daur”(1957) etc.

I was contemplating a write-up on the song ‘kyaa dekhaa ab naiano waali nainaa kyoon bhar aaye’ from film DHARMPUTRA (1961) over a month for discussion in the blog. But the song is so heart touching that I have been avoiding watching it again for a write-up. The song is a masterpiece and worthy of bringing to the notice of readers of this blog. The film was produced by B R Chopra and directed by Yash Chopra. Mala Sinha, Rehman, Shahsi Kapoor and Indrani Mukherjee were the main actors in the film. Five songs from this film have already been discussed in the blog.

Among all the movies based on the story of “Devdas”,”Devdas”(1955) is arguably the most memorable one in all respects, and unarguably so as far as its music is comcerned. The musical team of this movie, as well as the team on whom the songs were picturised cannot be replicated again.

One of my many weaknesses is that at any given point in time I’m humming or singing a song, completely oblivious to the surroundings. This has resulted in embarrassing situations at times (like when I burst out singing “chhoo lene do naazuk honthon ko” once while waiting for a flight in the departure lounge in an airport causing some heads to turn). Now, if I’d been Rafi saab or Talat Mahmood or Kishore, I’d probably get away with it – but I have no illusions about my singing having anything close to a favourable impact on the unintended and hapless targets of my indiscretions. It is just one of those things that I need to watch out for, I suppose.

As my age advances, I have started realising that I am recalling memories of my childhood and younger days much better than before. The flip side is that I tend to get forgetful or absent-minded in respect of my immediate past events. While the old days’ remembrance can be nostalgic and some time makes me emotional, the positive side is that I have started remembering some of the old Hindi films songs which I had completely forgotten for many years. But here is a catch which places me in a piquant situation. In some cases, I just remember the tune of a song and not the starting words or in an other way round, I remember the starting words but struggle to get to the tune of the song. Obviously, I have no inkling about the names of the films concerning these songs.

It is one of those songs that I liked a lot without having an inkling of its details. The fact that the song was sung by Kishore Kumar was all that mattered. Of course, I assumed that a song this popular could only be an R D Burman composition.
