I wanted to write a post to this song as a Tribute to Mehmood on his death anniversay on 23rd July but I missed the date somehow.

This qawwali is special on many counts. First of all it is a composed by Madan Mohan and written by Rajendra Krishan. The film is Sanjog (1961). It is a marathon effort by Rafi Sahab and Asha Bhosle who are trying to outplay each other in this 10 minutes long qawwali. And ” sone pe suhaaga ” is a unique trivia about this song, as both the singers are giving playback to Mehmood, i.e. Mehmood male qawwaal and Mehmood in the guise of a female qawwaal.

BADALTE HUYE SAATHI- Episode No. 6 (Hamida Bano sings with Shyamkumar)
—————————————————————————-

When I planned this series I knew that this subject is very vast and it was not possible to cover all major singers in such a short series. According to a source, from 1931 to year 2000, a total of about 7000 actors (male and Female) acted in Hindi Films in small and big roles. There must be atleast 1500 well known actors and the pity is, we do not have complete information on even 500 actors. For majority of actors, there are no Photographs ( remember, for a considerable time, how difficult it was to get a photograph of Shamshad begum or Madhubala Jhaveri ? ). So we know nothing about them except their names.

Laughter is a symbol of happy mood or joy. It is an important segment of ‘NAVRASAS’ as HASYA. Even the original writer Bharatmuni has described Hasya as an important element of Navaras, in his Natyashastra. That is why , probably, that many kings and Rajahs used to appoint a court Jester or Vidushak, who would ease the tension in the court by causing mirth.
