“Son of Alibaba” (1955) was produced by Darshan and directed by Majnu for M P Films. The movie had Mahipal, Chitra, Majnu, Chandrashekhar, Maruti, Shamim Chaudhary, Ramesh Thakur, Rajan Kapoor, Mumdaz, Md Ali, Ghani, Babu, Sheikh etc in it, with Shivraj and Nishi credited as guest artists.

Today (17 september 2016) is the 17th death anniversary of Hasrat Jaipuri (15 April 1922 – 17 Sept 1999).
Many music lovers may be forgiven for assuming that Hasrat Jaipuri mostly teamed up for Shankar Jaikishan and he hardly worked with other music directors. He has worked with most other big as well as not so big name music directors during his career.

In our life, we come across many strange things. There are many occasions when we feel disappointed when we don’t find or get what we had expected. This also teaches us not to get misled by external appearances. There are occasions when we find that our neighbour named Shanti Lal is a loud mouth and very quarrelsome person or visit a hotel called Sheraton, only to find that it is a dirtiest and a third grade joint inside !
In case of a person, at least it is understandable, because no one knows how the child will grow like. I knew one Rikshawala in Hyderabad whose name was Nizam. But when the name of a film is misleading, you not not only get disappointed but feel cheated as well!

The stock photograph that is available shows a very suave and handsome Sikh gentleman. The beard is neatly packed, the moustache is starched razor sharp, and the turban is a perfect construct. Six feet plus, with a very fair skin – all attributes put together make up a very attractive and becoming personality. By his own admission, he labels himself to be a romantic – and that he had to be in love to be able to create music. The others called him a “ladies man”.
Remembering Sardul Kwatra on the anniversary of his passing away today (6th July).

“Dekha Jaayegaa”(1960) is as obscure a movie asny. This quintessential B movie was produced by Ravi Kapoor and directed by O P Khanna for Marvel Productions, Bombay. The movie had Kamran, Lilian, Nasreen, Amarnath, Sherry, Kumud Tripathi, Amrit Rana, Sukhdev, Soni, Mohan Modi, Zippy, Robert, Dilip, Haroon, Kader, Ahmad, Badshah, Ibrahim, Gulaab, Moti (the dog) etc in it.

Isn’t that a matter of common everyday experience? A lot of love, spiced with the pepper of arguments and squabbles; add to the value of high spirits and breaks the monotony of goody goody goodness. I am very sure, all of us have had this experience, whenever we have gone to receive some body at the railway station, or gone to the station to start a train journey. There is a whole variety of actions and emotions we associate with this event. These days, the availability of mobile phones has made communicating much easier. But earlier it used to be different. One would start calling up the railway enquiry at least one hour before the expected arrival time. Connecting with that number and getting information used to be a trying task in itself. Then based on the information so received, one would plan to go to the station, depending on the distance. And we are all familiar with the pedantic and meticulous souls who would start this enquiry many hours in advance.
