Today I am presenting a song from the 1977 movie ‘Aanand Aashram’. It was directed by Shakti Samanta for his home productions ‘Shakti Films’. I had earlier presented a song from this movie on this blog on 14.01.2023. This song is ‘jab chaaho chalee aaoongee’. I had not watched this movie till then, but I did always remember the two well-known songs from this movie i.e. ‘raahee naye naye rastaa nayaa nayaa’ and ‘saaraa pyaar tumhaaraa maine baandhh liyaa hain aanchal mein’. So, when I presented the third song from this movie I had also gone through the remaining songs from this movie and some parts of this movie. I am always fascinated by the movies coming from the Bengali directors and those which are based on the literary works of the writers coming from Bengal. I have a great admiration for the arts, culture, theatre and films coming from that part of our country. I always had this movie on the back of my mind and that is the reason for this post today.

The Ajmer born and Mathura bred Basu Chatterjee (10/01/1927 – 04/06/2020) migrated to Mumbai in 1948 and worked as a cartoonist in ‘Current’ and ‘Blitz’ for about 18 years before venturing into Hindi films as Assistant Director under Basu Bhattacharya for ‘Teesri Kasam’ (1966) and under Govind Saraiya for ‘Saraswatichandra (1968). ‘Saara Aakaash’ (1969) was his first independently directed film which got him his first Filmfare Award for the Best Screenplay. The films which brought him accolades were ‘Rajanigandha’ (1974) followed by ‘Chhoti Si Baat’ (1975), ‘Chitchor’ (1976). Thereafter, he directed many films, most of which belonged to ‘middle of the road cinema’. In all, he directed 42 films and 8 TV serials during his career of four decades.

# The Special Voices of the Decade (1971-1980) – 6 # Yesudas #

He used to praise this new Singer a lot and liked his songs very much. My Father had even started learning ‘Malayalam’ from him and he had started learning how to write ‘Malayalam’ words too 🙂 in register.
