It is time to get on with the series and to finish it. Or it will soon be the day of Rafi sahab’s Birth Anniversary, if I keep dwelling on how to start a post and what to write in it. There is no doubt about it, that I have enjoyed doing this series.

“Saaranga” (1960) is a mythological movie with lovely songs in it. Listening to the songs of this movie on a peaceful evening is a wonderful experience. “Bedard Zamaanaa Kyaa Jaane” (1959) was a B grade movie starring Ashok Kumar, Nirupa Roy,Sudesh Kumar, Jabeen Jaleel etc. This movie is quite significant from music point of view. It was with this movie that Kalyanji Veerji Shah made his debut as an independent music director. Till then, he was assisting to other senior music directors viz Hemant Kumar etc. After another movie (Madaari), Kalyanji was joined by his younger brother Anandji and they formed the by now legendary musical partnership known as Kalyanji Anandji.

Recently reader Sudhir likened my knack of discovering musical gems to going into a coal mine and stumbling upon diamonds. It is a good comparison, and I in fact feel that the likelihood of coming up with musical diamonds in the metaphorical musical coal mine is far more, seeing how many of them I discover on a regular basis. I in fact liken it to walking on a beach, and coming across these gems lying undiscovered.

There are several Hindi movies with grand sounding titles, but here is a very homely kind of a title for a movie. It is called “Mera Ghar Mere Bachche” (1960), which means “My home and my kids”. How very plebian !
