Ten years back on this date viz on 14th October 2012, five songs from five different movies were covered on the blog. Here are the details:-
| Blog post number | Song | Movie (Year) | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6851 | Aaj sahi inkaar magar kal karna hoga pyaar | Zalzala(1952) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 6852 | Kisne chheda man ka taar | Tohfaa (1947) | 8 songs covered out of 10 by now |
| 6853 | Ham tumhaare hain zara ghar se nikal kar dekh lo | Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi(1958) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 6854 | Main hoon Mr John | Naach Ghar(1959) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 6855 | Na chaand ho na suraj ho | Jaadugar Daaku (1962) | 3 songs covered out of 6 by now |
We can notice that three movies (out of five) whose songs were covered on this date ten years ago (14 october 2012) have since been YIPPEED in the blog. That leaves us with two movies that have a few songs left and so they are still eligible for Blo Ten Year Challenge today (14 october 2022).

Today (4 August 2020) is the 91st birth anniversary of Kishore Kumar (4 August 1929- 13 october 1987). And incidentally, today is the 4400th day for the blog !
Three articles from three regulars discussing Kishore Kumar have already appeared on the blog today. It is interesting to note that all the three regulars decided to discuss three songs from the decade of 1980s.
The golden era of HFM, which began in 1949, ended in 1980. People who lived through the golden era can notice a palpable lack of overall quality in HFM after 1980. There were quite a few reasons for that. I have given this matter some thought and I have come up with some interesting observations. I will use those observations some other time in some other article. Here I will mention it in brief that the golden era of HFM began when Indian classical base (melody based) was wedded with western classical base (symphony based). This marriage, which gave us the best of both the worlds, got dissolved in 1980. Western symphony was replaced by western cacophony while lyrics of the songs were dispensed with.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 31
—————————————————————-
Agha Jaani Kashmiri (16/10/1908 – 27/03/1998) was perhaps the first story/screen-play/dialogue writer who was the ‘king maker’ in the Hindi film industry. Some of the producers/directors like Mehboob Khan, Shashidhar Mukherjee, Sunil Dutt used to consult him while taking up their new film projects. It is said that though he would be officially engaged for writing screen-play and dialogues, in realities, he would be their adviser in almost all the aspects of the film-making. Some of the actors themselves used to get trained from him about the correct pronunciations of their dialogues in Hindustani. Ashok Kumar, Devika Rani, Nargis, Joy Mukherjee, Sadhna, Saira Bano were some of the actors who sought his advice on their Urdu diction.

If there was a category like ‘post inspired by fellow Atulite’ or ‘post inspired by Atulite WA group chat’, this post would have been included under that category. This past Sunday there was a discussion between me and Peevesie’s Mom ji regarding the theme of the ‘Rangoli’ this week, which was Jaya Bhaduri/Bachchan, and so I messaged to her that I was expecting a post from her. Instead, she asked me that even I can do a post. And she also pointed out the birth anniversary of actor Jeetendra (and so if there was a song of Jaya Bachchan and Jeetendra, it would have been suitable for the post).

The Voice of Mukesh #22
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Today I am posting the 5th song by Mukesh from the film ‘Tohfaa’ (1947). As we make progress on the trip to listening to the voice of Mukesh in some well known, and some not so well known and downright rare songs, we are now coming close to the end of the 1947 list of songs by Mukesh. After this post, only two more of his songs from 1947 are to be posted.

It is generally believed that scriptwriters (I use this word to include story, screenplay and dialogue writers) in Hindi films gained recognition and their status enhanced thanks to Salim-Javed duo who reigned over Hindi film industry with their fast paced screen plays and dialogues during 70s and early 80s. In fact, those days during our family discussions, if someone gives a hard hitting response, we used to say “here comes Salim-Javed” which would help in bringing normalcy to the ongoing heated disussions. The duo became so popular that they used to decide who would be the lead actor in the films for which they wrote scripts. It is also believed that in addition to their fixed component of fees, they would also get a share of profits from the films for which they wrote. I have seen their names being printed in bold letters in film posters and newspapers advertisements signifying that along with lead actors, music director etc, the name of Salim-Javed also played a role in attracting cinegoers to the movie halls.
