I dont know how it is that I am finding songs penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri again and again. The song which is under discussion is from the film “Ardhangini”. From the other songs posted here and seen on youtube it is seen that this film stars Meena Kumar and Raj Kumar, and from the title and songs I assume this to be similar type of social film like ‘Aarti”.

I have a 78 RPM record (N.50600) of the song ‘saathi na bane koi’ from film DHUAAN (1953) sung by Krishna Goel which was set to music by Dhaniram. Since I was not able to listen to this record (which in any case is in poor condition) for want of a record player, I have been searching for the audio clip of the same on the internet sites.

June 9, 2012 is the birth centenary of the music director Vasant Desai whom I regard as a man who worked in Hindi film industry on his own terms without being a part of the rate race among his contemporary music directors. Being a devotee of the traditional music, he did not succumb to the lure of money in composing music for mass appeal.
