Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Mere saajan hain us paar

Posted on: October 3, 2008

I have mentioned earlier that S D Burman tended to sing one song per movie and that one song was usually played at the beginning on the movie while the credits would roll in on the screen.

In some cases, S D Burman song would be played at the end while “The End” screen was on the verge of appearing and the audience were in a hurry to leave the movie hall.

The Bandini song ” mere saajan hai us paar” is one such song that gets played at the last moments of the movie. Ashok Kumar disembarks from a train hauled by a steam locomotive and unknown to him, Nutan too is in the same train. As Ashok Kumar boards a steam ship, and the ship is about to set sail, Nutan makes it to the ship at the 11th hour and 59th minute. I suppose there was nothing like security checks etc on sea ships on those days.

Jokes apart, this song from a movie full of some of the saddest songs in Bollywood history, marks a fitting finale to a memorable melancholic movie.

Song- Mere saajan hain us paar (Bandini) (1963) Singer-S D Burman, Lyrics- Shailendra, MD- S D Burman

Lyrics

o re maajhi o re maajhi o o mere maajhi
mere saajan hain us paar,
main man maar, hoon is paar
o mere maajhi, abki baar,
le chal paar, le chal paar
mere saajan hain us paar,
main man maar, hoon is paar
o mere maajhi, abki baar,
le chal paar, le chal paar
mere saajan hain us paar

ho man ki kitaab se tum,
meraa naam hi mitaa denaa
gun to na thaa koi bhi,
avgun mere bhulaa denaa
man ki kitaab se tum,
meraa naam hi mitaa denaa
gun to na thaa koi bhi,
avgun mere bhulaa denaa
mujhe aajki bidaa kaa
mujhe aajki bidaa kaa mar ke bhi rahtaa intazaar
mere saajan hain us paar
main man maar, hoon is paar
o mere maajhii, abki baar, le chal paar, le chal paar
mere saajan hain us paar, main man maar, hoon is paar
o mere maajhi, abki baar, le chal paar, le chal paar
mere saajan hain us paar…

mat khel jal jaayegi, kahti hai aag mere man ki
mat khel
mat khel
mat khel jal jaayegi, kahti hai aag mere man ki
main bandini piyaa ki main sangini hoon saajan ki
meraa kheenchti hai aanchal
meraa kheenchti hai aanchal man meet teri har pukaar
mere saajan hain us paar
o re maajhi

main bandini piyaa ki main sangini hoon saajan ki
meraa kheenchti hai aanchal
meraa kheenchti hai aanchal man meet teri har pukaar
mere saajan hain us paar
o re maajhi o re maajhi o mere maajhi…

Absolutely beautiful Atul. I really like this song.

I am a BIG SD Burman fan, not just his music but his voice as well. Thanks for posting this.

SD Burman’s unique voice is so nice to listen to. It is like receiving a mental massage, that is how his voice appears to me.

Very true. Its not a voice for mainstream songs but he was a master in bringing out sentiments in songs that needed to convey something.

I fully agree with Shalini’s comments.
the subtle expressions of Actors and Actresses while S D Burman’s Songs being played in background is an example for todays heroin/Heros who do acrobatics on songs rather than acting

its very nice songs……

Indeed the voice is magical.

Hey , thank u so much for posting this lyrics in the most wonderful way ! HIS(sd berman) voice gives a divine feeling & its quite different frm any other voice ! Its so pleasing to listen his voice !

bandini ka ye gana sunkar yadi aapki ankhon mein kuchh nami aa jati hai aur do bund aansu chhalak jate hai to samajhiye ye sachin da ko apke dil se nikli shraddhanjali hai..
atul ,thanks for this wondeful song and lyrics

again thanks for such a nice, wonderful song

S D Burman sang few songs, but almost all of them went on to become immortal. He certainly had a Midas touch as a singer.

[…] to “Bandini” (1963), we all are familiar with the popular songs of this movie, viz. Mere saajan hain us paar sung by S D Burman, Mora gora ang lai le mohe shyaam rang dai de by Lata and O jaane waale ho sake […]

the song “mere saajan hain us paar” sung by sd barman is very good and melodius.

well sung by burman da 😀

Can someone please explain what the following lines mean?
mujhe aajki bidaa kaa
mujhe aajki bidaa kaa mar ke bhi rahtaa intazaar

Even if I would die, I would have still waited for this ‘Bidaai’ (as in bidaai of a bride after marriage)
