Mera naam hai chameli

This song is a fun timepass song or tapori song, whichever classification suits you. The movie itself was a lighthearted movie. In this song, Sanjeev Kumar is kept in a prison and Kumkun launches a drive to free him. The drive consists of the tried and tested Bollywood formula viz singing a suductive song and the prison guards prove a pushover in the true Bollywood tradition. A song sung by Kumkum is all that it takes for the guards to lower their guards and Kumkum, with her associates manages to free Sanjeev Kumar.
The picturisation of the song may not win any prizes for originality, but the song itself became quite popular. I recall my younger brother ( then 3 years of age) coming back home after playing and finding the door to our home locked, singing this song, much to the amusement of my mother.
It is a fun song, as mentioned earlier, and one can certainly enjoy listening to this song again. And it was a new kind of song in the sense that it mentioned a place called Bikaner. So the residents of Bikaner felt privileged to have a song that mentioned their time. This trend was started a couple of years prior to this song, when the town of Bareli was immortalised in the song “Jhumka gira re Bareli ke bazaar mein”.
So here is this song- “Mera naam hai Chameli”. It is one of those songs that do not appear to age one bit with time.

I have not yes posted this song. In fact, the video of this song may not be available on internet. I will surely post this song in near future.

Had a Rafi gem in this same film —– Tere Naam Ka Deewaana Tere Dar Ko Dhoondhta Hai.
