Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Dulhan Chali O pahan chali

Posted on: January 26, 2009

Here is yet another nationalistic song from a Manoj Kumar movie. The movie is “Purab Aur Paschhim” and the song is “Dulhan chali”.

In this song, Indian nation is likened to an Indian bride, and the national symbols are likened to bridal symbols used in India.

Beyond a stage, the comparisons may not always work. But overall, one need not look for logic in songs of nationalistic fervour.

It is a stage song where Manoj Kumar sings the sing and Bharati, symbolising the dulhan that India is likened to, dances. One can also see Vinod Khanna, then a newcomer, playing dafli on the stage.

This song was sung by Mahendra Kapoor. Just like Mukesh had become the voice of Raj Kapoor, Mahendra Kapoor had become the voice of Manoj Kumar those days, and this combination gave us some well known patriotic songs.

Song- Dulhan chali (Purab aur Paschhim) (1970) Singer-Mahendra Kapoor, Lyrics-Indeewar, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics

Purab me suraj ne chedi jab kirnon ki shahnaayi
chamak utha sindoor gagan pe
paschhim tak laali chhayi

hmm hmm
Dulhan chali haan pahan chali
ho re Dulhan chali
ho pahan chali
teen rang ki choli
baanhon me lahraaye ganga jamuna
dekhke duniya doli
Dulhan chali ho pahan chali
teen rang ki choli

aaa ooo
Taj mahal jaisi taaza hai soorat
chhalti firti Ajanta ki moorat
mel milap ki mehandi rachaaye
balidaanon ki rangoli
Dulhan chali ho pahan chali
teen rang ki choli

aaa ooo
mukh chamke jyun himalay ki choti
ho na padosi ki neeyat khoti
ho ghar waalon jara isko sambhaalo
ye to hai badi bholi
Dulhan chali ho pahan chali
teen rang ki choli

aur sajegi abhi aur sanwaregi
chadti umariya hai aur nikhregi
apni azaadi ki dulhaniya bees se upar ho li
Dulhan chali ho pahan chali
teen rang ki choli

desh prem hi aazaadi ki dulhaniya ka war hai
is albeli dulhan ka sindoor suhaag amar hai
mata hai kastoorba jaisi
babul gandhi jaise
babul gandhi jaise
chacha haste Nehru Shastri
dare na dushman kaise
dare na dushman kaise

Veer Shivaji jaise veeran LaxmiBai bahna
laxman jiske dost Bhagat Singh uska phir kya kahna
uska phir kya kahna
Jiske liye jawaan baha sakte hain khoon ki ganga
Jiske liye jawaan baha sakte hain khoon ki ganga
aage peeche teeno sena leke tiranga
Sena chalti hai leke tiranga
Sena chalti hai leke tiranga
Ho koyi ham praant ke wasi
ho koyi bhi bhasha bhashi
sabse pahle hain Bharat waasi
sabse pahle hain Bharat waasi
sabse pahle hain Bharat waasi
sabse pahle hain Bharat waasi
sabse pahle hain Bharat waasi

Another very good song.
Why is this not categorised in “Patriotic song” category ?

you have good collection of songs.can u mail me some patriotic songs

the actress in this song is bharati and not hema malini

achaaaaaaaaaaaa dance nahi hai….. koi steps hone chahiye the jisse baad mein koi use dekhkar uspe dance kar pata,, hum bure fase hain.. but song is nice

Hi Please correct the mention. The beautiful saanwli lday who dances par excellence is Bharathi. Hemamalini is not there in the movie. And there is a dance by the lady. And people who really want to dance on this patriotic song can design dance steps and start off// Anyways happy republic day. And azadi ki dulhaniya is 64 years old , So she can be called as mataji… And Republic devi is 60 years old.. So, Wish you all a very happy republic day.. ANd May God bless our Country with Unity, integirty and Human values… MAy all the corrupt politicians just vanish…

Thanks for the correction.
