Beete huye lamhon ki kasak saath to hogi

“Nikaah”(1982) was a movie that had some very popular songs in it. In fact, two of its songs went on to become number 2 and 3 in the annual programme of the Binaca geetmala countdown show.
Personally I liked the movie and its songs. But even I took the other songs of this movie for granted. Yesterday, when I listened to this song “beete huye lamhon ki kasak saath to hogi”, I was amazed- not only at the quality of the song, but also at my inability to pay close attention to this song all these years.
This song is a “separation” song. Students of a college have passed out and are leaving the college and entering into real life. A function has been organised on this occasion, and the students are giving their performances. Raj Babbar, one of the students, sings this song. Seated among the audience is Salma Agha, his class mate.
This song is written wonderfully well by Hasan Kamaal. It is almost as if the days of Sahir Ludhianvi were back. And the music director is that one and the only Ravi. The song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor.
This is a fantastic soing . It may not have become as popular as a few other songs from this movie, but quality wise, this song is just outstanding.
Song-Beete huye lamhon ki kasak (Nikaah) (1982) Singer-Mahendra Kapoor , Lyrics-Hasan Kamaal, MD- Ravi
Lyrics
abhi alwidaa mat kaho doston
na jaane kahaan phir mulaaqaat ho
na jaane kahaan phir mulaaqaat ho,
kyonki
beete huye lamhon ki kasak saath to hogi
beete huye lamhon ki kasak saath to hogi
khwaabon hi mein ho chaahe mulaaqaat to hogi
beete huye lamhon ki kasak saath to hogi
khwaabon hi mein ho chaahe mulaaqaat to hogi
beete huye lamhon ki kasak saath to hogi
ye pyaar mein doobi huyi rangeen fizaayen
ye pyaar me doobi huyi rangeen fizaayen
ye chehre ye nazren ye jawaan rut ye hawaayen
ham jaayen kahin inki mahak saath to hogi
ham jaayen kahin inki mahak saath to hogi
beete huye lamhon ki kasak saath to hogi
khwaabon hi mein ho chaahe mulaaqaat to hogi
phoolon ki tarah dil mein basaaye huye rakhnaa
phoolon ki tarah dil mein basaaye huye rakhnaa
yaadon ke chiraaghon ko jalaaye huye rakhnaa
lambaa hai safar is mein kahin raat to hogi
lambaa hai safar is mein kahin raat to hogi
khwaabon hi mein ho chaahe mulaaqaat to hogi
beete huye lamhon ki kasak saath to hogi

This movie has wonderful songs. I have fond memories of 1982 when this movie was released.

In addition to this song and the two other songs that stood second and third in Binaca geetmala final, this movie also introduced us to Ghulam Ali. His ghazal “chupke chupke raat din” was also there in the movie, without the permission of Ghualm ali himself. But that worked out well for him today, as Ghulam Ali earned a huge fan following in India aften that.

It is indeed a wonderful song, provided one devotes time to savour this song.

This is the best song ever.
I always thought it was about death/losing someone, and not about leaving college! But it works for both! You could add it to the philosophical song section!
