Tumhe aur kyaa doon main dil ke siwaay

Posted on: May 16, 2009

I have not watched this movie, but I know for sure that this movie “Aayi Milan Ki Bela” must have been a big hit, going by the quality and popularity of its songs.

There are several memorable songs in this movie that are regarded as all time classics.

Here is a song sung by Lata and picturised on Saira Bano and Rajendra Kumar. The song is a party song, and it appears to be a birthday song to celebrate Rajendra Kumar’s birthday ( from what I can make out).

Hasrat Jaipuri wrote the song and Shankar Jaikishan had composed the music of this song.

Song-Tumhe aur kyaa doon main dil ke siwaay (Aayi milan ki bela ) (1964) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

tumhen aur kyaa doon main dil ke siwaay
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumhen aur kyaa doon main dil ke siwaay
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye

muraaden hon poori saje har tamannaa
muhabbat ki duniyaa ke tum chaand bananaa
bahaaron ki manzil pe hansnaa-hansaanaa
khushi mein hamaari bhi aawaaz sunanaa
kabhi zindagi mein koyi gham na aaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumhen aur kyaa doon main dil ke siwaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye

mujhe jo khushi hai tumhen kyaa bataaun
bhalaa dil ki dhadkan ko kaise chhipaaun
kahin ho na jaaun khushi se main paagal
tumhen dekh kar aur bhi muskuraaun
Khudaa diljalon ki nazar se bachaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumhen aur kyaa doon main dil ke siwaay
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye

sitaaron se oonchaa ho rutbaa tumhaaraa
bano tum har ik zindagi kaa sahaaraa
tumhen jisase ulfat ho mil jaaye tumko
samajh lo hamaari duaa kaa ishaaraa
muqaddar tumhaaraa sadaa jagmagaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumhen aur kyaa doon main dil ke siwaay
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye
tumko hamaari umar lag jaaye

Lovely song. I really admire these music directors who bring such life to mere words through their music.

I remember seeing that movie ages ago, but have forgotten most of it. I think it was generally entertaining. There was (was it in this movie?) one guy who kept exclaiming, “baat karta hai” (during the comedy bits) whenever he was annoyed with what someone said. There was another, rather lively title song in that movie: “aha aayi milan ki bela dekho aayi”.

This movie played in Toronto when I was a kid. I really didn’t understand a word as the version they showed on the big screen didn’t have subtitles. But there were a lot of whistles from the guys in the audience when the title song dance was on. That’s all I remember.

I am glad I was never an extra on a Indian film set. I would be caught tapping my toes and actually looking interested rather than the bored looks in the scene!

I have seen this movie – once as a young boy and once a few years back.

It was a massive hit – one of the biggest hits of Rajendra “Jubilee” Kumar’s career. Almost all the songs were hits too.

I believe one of the most talked-about aspects of this movie was Dharmendra’s role. He played a negative role in the movie. When he was beaten up by Rajendra Kumar towards the end, a lot of people did not like it and said “how can such a handsome and strong man be beaten up by Rajendra Kumar ?” 🙂 It did not help Rajendra Kumar’s image though the movie became a big hit 🙂

(I read this in an interview with Rajendra Kumar many years ago. Apparently he got fan mail saying this – he had a good laugh about it).

That is an interesting tidbit about this movie.
