Here is another interesting song from “Baap re Baap” (1955). I call this a “jhoola” song, where a lady (Smriti Biswas? Chand Usmani ? ) is swinging on a “jhoola” and singing this song. Kishore Kumar is also there and he goes round and round trees, dancing his unique dance and playing a mouth organ all the time.

“Chandni Chowk” (1954) appears to be a treasure trove for some interesting songs. I have noticed that this movie has lyrics written by the likes of Shailendra, Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, Majrooh Sultanpuri,Vishamitra Adil and Saifuddin Sez. Similarly, this movie has songs sung by Rafi, Mukesh, Lata , Asha Bhonsle, Mubarak Begum,Sapan Chakravarty, Shyam Sundar and even Meena Mangeshkar.

When one talks of “Pukaar”, one means Sohrab Modi’s historical movie of 1939. But another movie of this name was released in 1983 which had Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman and Randhir Kapoor in lead roles.

Ye Bombay shahar ka badaa naam hai

In Bollywood movies, we often have songs about places, viz cities, towns etc. Out of all these cities, there have been quite a few songs on Bombay. For instnace, “ae dil hai mushqil jeena yahaan, zara hatke zara bachke ye hai Bombay meri jaan” is still regarded as a song that aptly describes Bombay ( now Mumbai).

Whenever someone talks of ‘Prem Parbat”, I am reminded of the song “Ye dil aur unki nigaahon ke saaye”. In fact, this movie and this song are almost synonymous for many people, including me.
