Maine rakha hai muhabbat apne afsaane kaa naam

Posted on: August 6, 2009

“Shabnam” (1964) was a movie where Mehmood was in lead role opposite Vyjyanti Mala. I have no idea how the movie fared, but the songs of this movie were outstanding, as I have discovered.

Here is one of these outstanding songs from this movie. It is sung by rafi. It is written by Jawed Anwar and Usha Khanna is the music director.

This song is an ideal “chaayageet” song, viz a song that is ideal to be heard late at night.

Song-Maine rakha hai muhabbat apne afsaane ka naam (Shabnam) (1964) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Jawed Anwar, MD-Usha Khanna

Lyrics

ya habeebi
ya habeeb
ya habeebi
ya habeeb

he
Maine rakha hai muhabbat apne afsaane ka naam
maine rakkhaa hai muhabbat
tum bhi kuchh achchhaa saa rakh do apne deewaane kaa naam
tum bhi kuchh achchhaa saa rakh do apne deewaane kaa naam
Maine rakha hai muhabbat apne afsaane ka naam

kis qadar khoobsoorat hai tere deedaar ki duniyaa
meri nazron ki jannat hai zulf-o-rukhsaar ki duniyaa
kis qadar khoobsoorat hai tere deedaar ki duniyaa
tumhen pahchaanaa hai Khudaa ko samjhaa hai
Khudaa ko jaanaa hai
Maine rakha hai muhabbat apne afsaane ka naam
Maine rakha hai

dil pe tum haath jo rakh do meri taskeen ho jaaye
jaaneman zindagi meri kuchh to rangeen ho jaaye
dil pe tum haath jo rakh do meri taskeen ho jaaye
nazar mil jaane do qayaamat aati hai
qayaamat aane do
Maine rakha hai muhabbat apne afsaane ka naam
maine rakkhaa hai

ishq par kya guzarti hai
husn ye raaz kya jaane
mere dil ke tadapne ka koyi andaaz kyaa jaane
ishq par kya guzarti hai
husn ye raaz kya jaane
hai dil parwaane ka
koyi hamse poochhe
mazaa jal jaane kaa
Maine rakha hai muhabbat apne afsaane ka naam
maine rakkhaa hai muhabbat
tum bhi kuchh achchhaa saa rakh do apne deewaane kaa naam
tum bhi kuchh achchhaa saa rakh do apne deewaane kaa naam
Maine rakha hai muhabbat apne afsaane ka naam
Maine rakha hai

Lovely song.
Indeed the songs of this movie are very good – but I think the movie did not do very well.
Btw, the heroine opposite Mehmood is not Vyjanthimala but Vijaylaxmi.

i think the song picturised on L.Vijayalashmi who used to act opposite to Jai Sankar

I third the Vijaylaxmi thing 🙂

Great song – i’ve dnloaded the vid from youtube. Can anyone add the name of the (musical) instrument that produces the “kit-kit-kit” sounds in this, and many other old songs ?

I don’t know the name of that instrument but it surely was a signature style for O P Nayyar- although the MD is Usha Khanna here.

They are known as castanets–which are tiny instruments that fit into the palms of the two hands and can be played quickly in continuous notes to create a roll type of sound..
