Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai

Posted on: August 21, 2009

“Smuggler” (1966) was a kind of movie which was regarded as B grade stuff in 1960s, but movies like this became mainstream by 1970s.

One could not tell the story of this movie apart from the A grade movies of Amitabh Bachchan one decade later. It is just that the movies of 1960s were lower budget movies featuring lesser actors.

The biggest attraction of this movie, as far as I am concerned, is the music of Ganesh. Ganesh got the opportunity to compose music in only 17 movies, and going by my experiences with the 20 odd Ganesh songs that I have heard so far (out of about 80 odd) , his songs were outstanding, almost without exception.

Here is the first song of “Smuggler” (1966). this is a birthday song sung by Lata. It is picturised on Kumkum, Purnima, Sanjeev Kumar, Sheikh Mukhtar etc. The movie credits showed three lyricists viz Indeewar, Asad Bhopali and Zafar Muradabadi, but the breakup of songs among them was not mentioned, so I am not aware which of these lyricists wrote this song. But whoever wrote it has done a fine job in coming up with this song.

And this song , as is the case with most Ganesh compositions, is a very nice song to listen to.

Song-Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai (Smuggler) (1966) Singers-Lata, Lyrics-Indeewar/Asad Bhopali/Zafar Muradabadi,MD-Ganesh

Lyrics

Ye tabla kahe
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai
sarangi kahe kinko kinko
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai
sarangi kahe kinko kinko
manjeera haath uthaake kahtaa hai inko inko
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai
sarangi kahe kinko kinko
manjeera haath uthaake kahtaa hai inko inko
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai

Bhagwaan tera teri mehnat hai
mandir teraa saara Bharat hai
jeetaa rahe raushan ho naam tera
bade bade kaam kare laal mera
kaam se jo bhaage
anjaam se jo bhaage
daya ki bheek maange
unko
unko kyaa bolo
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai
sarangi kahe kinko kinko
manjeera haath uthaake kahtaa hai inko inko
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai

aaa aaa aaa
tu mera hi nahin sabka apna hai
tu aane waale kal ka sapna hai
gham kaisa tu man ka mauji hai
seema ka nanha sa fauzi hai
peeth jo dikhaaye
maidaan chhod jaaye
jo desh ko lajaaye
unko
unko kyaa bolo
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai
sarangi kahe kinko kinko
manjeera haath uthaake kahtaa hai kinko kinko
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai
aaa

mere nanhe nanhe phool
maan ko mat jaana tu bhool
tu hai
tu hai Gandhi ka haqdaar
tu hai Nehru ka awtaar
desh ko aur sanwaar
aur bhi roop nikhaar
desh ki jo khaaye
videshi geet gaaye
imaan ko jo dubaaye
unko kyaa bole
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai
sarangi kahe kinko kinko
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai
sarangi kahe kinko kinko
manjeera haath uthaake kahtaa hai inko inko
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai
Ye tabla kahe dhik hai dhik hai

Plus, kids doing the Indian twist! 🙂 How could that possibly be bad?

Any idea what is the name of the kid ?

No, although I haven’t really looked for it. But ALL the kids are great at twisting in this 🙂 Love especially the really little ones going at it!

What a lovely song this is.
Very cute – it strikes a chord immediately.

Nice to see kids dancing the twist. With so much vigour. If only I could dance with so much vigour, I am sure it would be very good exercise for me. 😉

Btw, this song reminded me a bit of a song from Parivar. Pretty forgettable movie (full of “preaching”) but there was a Gandhiji song in it (Aaj Hai Do October Ka Din). Just letting you know Atul so that you can maybe plan this for 2nd October. 🙂

Yes, it is a very cute song. Just wait for the other songs of this movie. I found them mind blowing.

Two other Ganesh films that had good music were “Ek Nanhi Munni Ladki Thi” and “Kahin Aar Kahin Paar”

And also “Thakur Jarnail Singh”, “Husn aur Ishq”,”Sab ka ustaad”, “Sharaarat”, Chalaak”, “Dhamkee” etc etc. In fact, by now I may have listened to some 30 songs out of 80 plus that he composed, and I liked most of them.

I am happy that you liked this song. Ganesh, the creator of this song, was an amazing music director, as I have found.
