Of late, I have been posting songs from “Aab e Hayaat” (1955) in this blog. Most of the songs in the movie have been sung by Geeta Dutt and picturised on the heroine, though I have also posted a song sung by Asha Bhonsle ( picturised on Helen) and one sung by Hemant Kumar ( picturised on Premnath).

“Maachis” (1996) had two songs that I was aware of and which I liked. I have posted one of them yesterday. Here is the second song from this movie.

Though this song is from a movie of 1961, I first heard this song just a few days ago. And since then, I have come to the conclusion that this song must be one of the greatest songs created in Bollywood movies. And I am really surprised that this song is not all that well known. A song like this should form part of all the “all time classics” that music companies come up with periodically.

In Bollywood movies, most sad songs are sung by grown ups. Typically a lady, who cannot meet her beloved sings a sad song, or a gent, thinking that his beloved is a “bewafa”, takes to singing a sad song.

I have posted a couple of songs from “Dilruba” (1950) in the past. This movie, which is largely forgotten by now, had Dev Anand and Rehana in lead roles along with Yakub and others.

Most of the songs in this blog are from 1950s and 1960s, so going by the standards of this blog, this song is a brand new song, in mint condition. 🙂

1980s was when I had begun to lose track of Bollywood songs and movies. The fact that it also coincided with the time when the quality of songs was going downhill was also one of the factors.

I have discovered that “Prempatra” (1962) is a movie that had some sweet melodious songs in it that were composed with loving care by Salil Chaudhary.
