Though this song talks of “Chanda”, “raat” etc, which are found in “Chaayaageet” songs, this song from “Chhoo Mantar” sounds more like a dance song. After all, O P Nayyar is the music director of this song, and his music tended to be dance music. In “Chaayageet” songs, we do not expect the lovelorn protagonist to dance, he/ she is just expected to sing in a slow tempo. 😉

Here is one OP Nayyar music that is perhaps the most widely known among present generation, mainly because of its countless remixes. This song is the immortal “Babuji dheere chalna” from “Aar Paar” (1954).

I have found that Kapoor Khandaan heroes tended to romance their would be wives on screen before tying the knot in real life. This was the case with Shammi Kapoor who acted opposite Geeta Bali in a few movies. Rishi Kapoor in fact had a roaring romance with Neetu Singh for nearly a decade in reel as well as real life before they were finally married.

“Mohar” (1959) was a movie starring Shammi Kapoor and Geeta Bali, but not much is known about this movie today. This movie has flopped badly at the box office. And as luck would have it, Madan Mohan was the music director of this movie. Seeing his movie bomb at the box office was a fate that Madan Mohan suffered in most of the 92 movies in which he gave music.

Madan Mohan is mostly known for his immortal ghazals, but he has created other genre of music as well. In fact, for much of 1950s, his music direction style was not well defined. His music during this period often resembled the music of many other sources.
