Mashrique se jo aaye maghrib mein kho gaye

Posted on: January 7, 2010

These days, we talk of Bollywood movie songs not being what they were in the past. For great songs, we cite the songs of 1960s and 1970s.

In reality, when we were in 1970s, we used to think that the songs of 1970s were not of the same calibre as the songs of 1960s. In fact, I also felt the same way.

For instance, this song from “Aashique hoon bahaaron ka” was regarded as a poor song by me. Even to this day, I have not changed my opinion of this song. But when one looks at the quality of songs that followed in 1980s, a song like this appears quality personified in comparison.

One of the reasons why I may not have liked this song was that this song blonged to a movie that was panned harshly by the movie critics and the movie itself was no great shakes. Of course, there are die hard Rajesh Khanna fans who refuse to believe that this movie was anything other than outstanding.

This song is written by Anand Bakshi and its music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. Kishore Kumar is the singer and this song is picturised on Rajesh Khanna as a party song. Zeenat Aman and Danny also make their presence felt in this song.

In this song, Mashrique and Maghrib are Urdu words indicating direction.

Mashrique = East
Maghrib=West

Song-Mashrique se jo aaye maghrib mein kho gaye (Aashiq Hoon Bahaaron Kaa ) (1977) Singer- Kishore Kumar,Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

Mashriq se jo aaye maghrib mein kho gaye
arre achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye
ye achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye
arre poorab se jo nikle paschhim mein kho gaye
arre achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye
ye achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye

hosh mein wo sun sakte to
sunte itna kahna tha
sharm wafa har aurat ka
ik parda tha ik gahna tha
desh inhone chhod diya
lekin ghar mein to rahna tha
haan
arre ghar se jo nikle wo galiyon mein kho gaye
arre achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye
ye achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye

Inko kuchh bhi yaad nahin
ye har reet bhulaa baithe
apni jaan ke ye dushman
apne meet bhula baithe
Shyam ki bansi Raadha ke saare geet bhula baithe
arre ye Ganga ke maaji madira mein kho gaye
arre achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye
ye achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye

maana aur watan hai ye apna Hindustan nahin
ismen aise log bhi hain jinki kuchh pahchaan nahin
jinki kuchh tahzeeb nahin jinki koi jubaan nahin
arre ye jaane pahchaane anjaane ho gaye
arre achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye
ye achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye
arre mashriq se jo aaye maghrib mein kho gaye
arre achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye
ye achhe khaase log the deewaane ho gaye
