Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Maana ho tum behad haseen

Posted on: February 28, 2010

“Toote Khilaune” (1978) was a flop movie and rightly so. Who in his right minds would like to go and buy tickets to watch nobodies like Shekhar Kapoor and Shabana Azmi in lead roles ? Neither I nor anybody else, of course.

If this movie still found some mention and some name, then it was mainly because of this one song, viz “maana ho tum behad haseen aise bure ham bhi nahin”.

This song was sung by Yesudas, a leading south Indian singer who had made his singing debut in Hindi movies a few years back. The lyricist was Kaifi Azmi, father of the heroine of this movie. Music director was Bappi Lahiri who to me looked like the new R D Burman in the making till that time. Of course, Bappi Lahiri would take an enirely different route to musical fame in the coming years.

Here is this wonderful song from “Toote Khilaune” which ended up getting wasted in this movie.

Song-Maana ho tum behad haseen (Toote Khilaune) (1978) Singer-Yesudas, Lyrics-Kaifi Azmi, MD-Bappi Lahiri

Lyrics

maanaa ho tum, behad haseen
aise bure, ham bhi nahin
maanaa ho tum, behad haseen
aise bure, ham bhi nahin
dekho kabhi to, pyaar se
darte ho kyun, izhaar se
maanaa ho tum, behad haseen
aise bure, ham bhi nahin

khultaa nahin, kuchh dilrubaa
tum hamse khush ho, yaa ho khafaa
tirchhi nazar, teekhi adaa
lagte ho kuchh yoon, bezaar se
dekho kabhi to, pyaar se
darte ho kyun, izhaar se
maanaa ho tum, behad haseen
aise bure, ham bhi nahin

tum do kadam, do saath agar
aasaan ho jaaye safar
chhodo bhi ab, duniyaa kaa dar
todo na yoon, inkaar se
dekho kabhi to, pyaar se
darte ho kyun, izhaar se
maanaa ho tum, behad haseen
aise bure, ham bhi nahin
dekho kabhi to, pyaar se
darte ho kyun, izhaar se
maanaa ho tum, behad haseen
aise bure, ham bhi nahin
maanaa ho tum
