Ek pal ruk jaanaa sarkaar
Posted on: June 12, 2010
I have posted so many songs from “Dholak” (1951) and each song is outstanding without exception. What a treasure of timeless songs this movie is !
Here is yet another song (8th) from this movie that I am posting here. This song is a cute romantic song. Ajit and Meena Shorey are in love but they would not express it directly. It is a lovely playful song picturised on the two. The song sung by Rafi and Lata is wonderful, and the picturisation is superb.
The song is written by Aziz Kashmiri. Shyam Sundar is the music director.

Lyrics
ik pal ruk jaanaa sarkaar
na maaro do nainon ki maar
ke ik pal ruk jaanaa
ik pal hat jaanaa sarkaar
jhoothe tum ho tumhaaraa pyaar
ke ik pal hat jaanaa
kit chale hamen tadpaa ke
ik rang nayaa dikhlaa ke
kit chale hamen tadpaa ke
ik rang nayaa dikhlaa ke
ki ik pal ruk jaanaa sarkaar
na maaro do nainon ki maar
ke ik pal ruk jaanaa
ik pal hat jaanaa sarkaar
jhoothe tum ho tumhaaraa pyaar
ki ik pal hat jaanaa
ho ho ho
ho ho ho
ho ho ho
ab aur sahaaraa dhoondhen chal kar
nayaa dwaaraa dhoondhen
ab aur sahaaraa dhoondhen chal kar
nayaa dwaaraa dhoondhen
ki ab to ho gaye hain bekaar
maangen chal kar kahin udhaar
ke ik pal hat jaanaa
ke ik pal ruk jaanaa sarkaar
na maaro do nainon ki maar
ki ik pal ruk jaanaa
ye dil phatne ki baaten
ham se door hatne ki baaten
ye dil phatne ki baaten
ham se door hatne ki baaten
ki ik pal ruk jaanaa sarkaar
na maaro do nainon ki maar
ki ik pal ruk jaanaa
ik pal hat jaanaa sarkaar
jhoothe tum ho tumhaaraa pyaar
ki ik pal hat jaanaa
ho ho ho
ho ho ho
ho ho ho
dil phat gayaa hai to see lo
chaahe mar jaao yaa jee lo
dil phat gayaa hai to see lo
chaahe mar jaao yaa jee lo
ki ik pal hat jaanaa sarkaar
jhoothe tum ho tumhaaraa pyaar
ki ik pal hat jaanaa
ki ik pal ruk jaanaa sarkaar
jhoothe tum ho tumhaaraa pyaar
ki ik pal ruk jaanaa

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SONG.
I cannot find words to thank you for posting this lovely song from the bygone era.
aap ki khidmat mein yeh char lines pesh kar raha hoon
Baaghon mein phool khilte rahenge
raaton mein deep jalte rahenge
Khuda aapko saari khushiyan dede
Baaki takleef to hum aapko dete rahenge

What a cute song! Ajit looks great, sort of a cross between Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. I wish he had retained these good looks and this trim figure, he would have been a great hero then. Of course, the best part about these songs is the lyrics – simple, yet meaningful, with none of the unnecessary clutter that one finds in songs these days. Thanks for this gem, Atul!
