“Swaami”(1977) is a movie that was produced by Hema Malini’s mother (Jaya Chakravarty) and this movie had Girish Karnad and Shabana Azmi in lead roles. Though none of the people involved were of Bengal background, but this movie was based on the backdrop of Bengal.
Here is a song from this movie where a Bengali wedding is depicted. The picturisation shows Girish Karnad and Shabana Azmi getting married in Bengali style, and this song gets played in the background. Whenever I look at the picturisation of wedding scenes in Bollywood movies, I cannot but help feel that they are incredibly realistic and I wonder what goes through the minds of actors who are getting married in these picturisations. If real like people are subjected to such an experience, they may well feel like they are getting married for real.
This song is sung by Kishore Kumar. This song is written by Amit Khanna andits music is composed by Rajesh Roshan. This song touches the heart strings of the listeners and this song has gone on to become a timeless classic.

Oh I LOVE this song. The film had really superb music and Shabana was awesome in it. The only problem was Vikram 😉 or maybe his hair. The Yesudas number, ‘Ka karoon sajni’ is an enduring favorite, beautifully picturized too like this and ‘Pal bhar mein yeh kya ho gaya’. Basu Chatterjee made some lovely films in that period.

Just yield to that temptation and post that lovely song, Atul! I am waiting to hear it. It is a truly beautiful song, and I had the pleasure of listening to Yesudas rendering it live in a concert held at a nearby city three or four years back.

You know, they only show Punjabi weddings and Bengali weddings. –maybe a few Rajput ones too. I haven’t seen any others

You need to see Rajshree Production movies of 1970-80s to see Bihari weddings- for instance “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1983) which was the rural and original version of Rajshree production’s lavish wedding movie “Ham Aapke Hain Kaun”
