Do Badan (1966) may not be the best-known movie of its times but at least in the songs department it could hold its head up with pride. A lively Asha solo, a typical Lata solo and three Rafi solo songs, all of which are heart-wrenching. Yes, the songs of this movie, written by Shakeel Badayuni and composed by Ravi, were certainly the highlights of this movie.
Of the three Rafi solo songs in this movie, two have already been posted. This one completes the trilogy. It would not be right to compare the three – I find them all wonderful in their own ways. What strikes me about all of them is the lyrics. They are simple but powerful. If you are a spurned lover, these songs would suit you perfectly. 😉
Rafi saab’s rendition of course adds that dimension of pathos to the songs. Long before I saw the picturisation of the songs I heard them on radio (many times!) and fell in love with them as soon as I heard them.
I remember hearing this particular song “bhari duniya” one afternoon while walking on the streets of Chowringhee in Calcutta (Kolkata). Songs of this movie were quite often played on All India Radio and that was one such occasion. I was in a pensive mood anyway (no, I was not spurned in love 😉 ) and this song just had me singing along.
I hope you enjoy this song too, regardless of your mood or spurned-status. 😉

Song-Bhari duniyaa mein aakhir dil ko samjhaane kahaan jaayen (Do Badan) (1966) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Ravi
Lyrics
Bhari duniya mein aakhir dil ko samjhaane kahaan jaayen
Bhari duniya mein aakhir dil ko samjhaane kahaan jaayen
Mohabbat ho gayi jinko, wo deewaane kahaan jaayen
Bhari duniya mein aakhir dil ko samjhaane kahaan jaayen
Bhari duniya
Lagey hai shamma par pehrey, zamaane ki nigaahon ke
Lagey hai shamma par pehrey, zamaane ki nigaahon ke
Zamaane ki nigaahon ke
Jinhen jalne ki hasrat hai
Jinhen jalne ki hasrat hai, wo parwaane kahaan jaayen
Mohabbat ho gayi jinko, wo deewaane kahaan jaayen
Bhari duniya mein aakhir dil ko samjhaane kahaan jaayen
Bhari duniya
Sunaana bhi jinhen mushqil, chhupaana bhi jinhen mushqil
Sunaana bhi jinhen mushqil, chhupaana bhi jinhen mushqil
Chhupaana bhi jinhen mushqil
Zaraa tu hi bataa aye dil
Zaraa tu hi bataa aye dil, wo afsaane kahaan jaayen
Mohabbat ho gayi jinko, wo deewaane kahaan jaayen
Bhari duniya mein aakhir dil ko samjhaane kahaan jaayen
Bhari duniya
Nazar mein uljhanen dil mein, hai aalam beqaraari ka
Nazar mein uljhanen dil mein, hai aalam beqaraari ka
Hai aalam beqaraari ka
Samajh mein kuchh nahin aataa
Samajh mein kuchh nahin aataa, sukoon paane kahaan jaayen
Mohabbat ho gayi jinko, wo deewaane kahaan jaayen
Bhari duniya mein aakhir dil ko samjhaane kahaan jaayen
Bhari duniya

I love this song, but when I found out that the hero was Manoj, I decided not to watch this movie with my friends from college! In fact, I also loved all the songs from this movie, but as I said, Manoj put me off completely. I could never understand his plaid coats and grim looks (how many of these coats did the man own?).
Great write-up, Raja! I have also walked down Chowringhee, but do not recall hearing any songs while doing so!
