Lyrics

dil ko bachaana baabu ji
na aana tum kabhi haseenon ki gali
aankhen hain teer yahaan
zulfen zanjeer yahaan
aage tumhaari marzi
dil ko bachaana baabu ji
na aana tum kabhi haseenon ki gali
aankhen hain teer yahaan
zulfen zanjeer yahaan
aage tumhaari marzi
dil ko bachaana baabu ji

aaj kal husn waale
rehem karna na jaanen
apni apni chalaayen
doosre ki na maanen

aaj kal husn waale
rehem karna na jaanen
apni apni chalaayen
doosre ki na maanen

inko rakhna sambhaale huye zindagi
inse rakhna sambhaale huye zindagi
dil ko bachaana baabu ji
na aana tum kabhi haseenon ki gali
aankhen hain teer yahaan
zulfen zanjeer yahaan
aage tumhaari marzi
dil ko bachaana baabu ji

ishq waale bhi zaalim
kam nahin aaj kal ke
jab kahin husn dekha
rah gaye bas machal ke

ishq waale bhi zaalim
kam nahin aaj kal ke
jab kahin husn dekha
rah gaye bas machal ke

lut gaya dil to hoti hai haalat buri
lut gaya dil to hoti hai halat buri
dil ko bachaana babu ji
na aana tum kabhi haseenon ki gali
aankhen hain teer yahaan
zulfen zanjeer yahaan
aage tumhaari marzi
dil ko bachaana baabu ji

aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa

pyaar wo hai ke jiska do taraf ho nishaana
husn bhi baawafa ho
ishq bhi ho deewaana

pyaar wo hai ke jiska do taraf ho nishaana
husn bhi baawafa ho
ishq bhi ho deewaana

dil mile na to samjho qayaamat hui
dil mile na to samjho qayaamat hui
dil ko bachaana baabu ji
na aana tum kabhi haseenon ki gali
aankhen hain teer yahaan
zulfen zanjeer yahaan
aage tumhaari marzi
dil ko bachaana baabu ji
na aana tum kabhi haseenon ki gali
aankhen hain teer yahaan
zulfen zanjeer yahaan
aage tumhaari marzi

“Ummeed”(1971), though described as a 1971 release in HFGK, appears to be a movie of early 1960s, which for some reasons was released late. This movie was directed by Nitin Bose for Rajan Films, Bombay. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Nanda, Joy Mukherji, Leela Naidu, Tarun Bose, Leela Mishra, Chandrima Bhaduri, Hazara Singh, Parashram, Husaain, Ravikant, Nazeer Kashmiri, Ramesh, Laxmi Chhaya, Jeewankala, Madhumati, Jankidas, Sabita Chatterji, Tunyun, Agha etc in it.

The movie had seven songs in it. Five songs have already been covered.

Today is the birth anniversary of Bimal Roy (12 july 1909- 8 january 1966). Bimal Roy directed some memorable movies like such as Do Bigha Zamin, Parineeta, Biraj Bahu, Madhumati, Sujata, Parakh, Bandini etc. All these movies are already YIPPEED in the blog.

Bimal Roy was also associated with some other movies in different capacities. For instance, he had edited “Ummeed”.

As a tribute to the famous Bimal Roy, here is a song from “Ummeed”(1971). The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.

The song is picturised as a seduction song on Madhumati, with Tarun Bose playing the seductee.

For a soft and lovely and romantic expression, it probably does not get better than this delightful ghazal. The words, the music, and the rendition – all have come together to craft this wonderful expression of bashful love. Love, that wants to say many things, but remains un-speaking, when presented with the opportunity. The anxiety and hesitations tie the tongue, and the moments pass by without a word being said. Shakeel Sb has so beautifully painted the words around this emotion. Each couplet is a priceless gem. I am bowled over with how the words are knitted together.

hasraten aarzooen umangen
jaane kis raah par jaa rahi theen
un ko dekha to manzil samajh kar
ruk gaya karvaan un ke aage

UMMEED (1941) was produced by Ranjit Movietone and it was directed by Manibhai Vyas. The cast included Ishwarlal, Prabha, Noor Jahan Sr., Dixit, Neela, Ibrahim, Brijmala, Bhagwandas, Kasam, Kesri etc. The film was a family drama with a light comedy touch. The film was reviewed in May 1941 issue of ‘Filmindia’ magazine and had given a verdict of a delightful entrainment. A gist of the story of the film based on this review is given below:

“Ummeed” (1971) is an obscure movie, despite this movie being of relatively recent vintage by the standards of this blog. This movie was a Rajan Films production and it was directed by Nitin Bose. The cast of this movie included names like Ashok Kumar, Nanda,Leela Naidu, Joy Mukherjee, Tuntun, Agha, Leela Misra etc. This movie must have sunk without a trace, because I have not heard of this movie despite this movie getting released when I was at my most alert and curious as a pre teen kid.

This happens with me many a times. I listen to a song and like it. And then I forget all about it. I have no clue about the identity of the song, except that it was a song sung by a particular singer.
