I thought I had already discusssed this song from “Subah Ka Taara” (1954). So I was surprised to get a farmaish for this song. On checking, I realised that I had not posted this song, or for that matter any song from this movie.
I clearly recall discussing this song in the past. So now I realise that I had discussed this song in my other blog while discussing Binaca geetmala, C Ramchandra etc.
Here is this wonderful song from “Subah Ka taara” (1954). This is a duet sung by Talat Mehmood and Lata. It is picturised on Pradeep Kumar and Jashree as a train song. What a joyous song it is. This song can be described as the title song as well as theme song of this movie as well.
Noor Lucknowi is the lyricist and C Ramchandra is the music director. What a timeless classic this song is ! Listening to this song certainly makes one’s day.

Lyrics
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
toote dil kaa bandhaa sahaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
saans khushi ki tan mein aayi
armaanon ne li angdaayi
jaag uthin ummeeden saari
jaag uthi taqdeer hamaari
kahin kisi ne door pukaaraa
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
murjhaayi kali kyaa phir se khilegi
murjhaayi kali kyaa phir se khilegi
khoyi huyi kyaa raahat milegi
kahin ye taaraa toot na jaaye
subah kaa saathi chhoot na jaaye
aankhon mein rah jaaye nazaaraa
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayi udaasi raunak chhaayi
raushni ab jeewan mein aayi
hansi khushi kaa chhedo taraanaa
naach uthe man jhoome zamaanaa
samaa suhaanaa pyaaraa pyaaraa
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa
gayaa andheraa huaa ujaaraa,
chamkaa chamkaa subah kaa taaraa

What is it that makes a song enjoyable ? It is not just one aspect of the song, rather one enjoys several things about it. It is the voice of the singer, as well as the music that appeals to the ears, it is also the lyrics. In fact, the contribution of lyrics in making a soul can never be overemphasised. I am always fond of saying that lyrics are the soul of songs and it the lyrics that makes songs come alive. That is why I give so much importance to the lyrics of the song.

There is very little known about this movie called “Bedardi” (1951). I only know this much about this movie that it had actors like Nimmi, Geeta Bali, Jeewan, Jaswant (?), Amirbai Karnataki, I C Kapoor etc in it.
This movie is obscure and the same can be said about its music as well, but the songs of this movie are nice songs to listen to.
