Nukta cheen hai gham e dil

Posted on: March 13, 2011

I have discussed the songs of the movie “Mirza Ghalib” (1954). This movie was based on the life of poet Mirza Ghalib and it contained many songs which were actually Mirza Ghalib’s poems.

One of these songs was Nuktaa cheen hai gham e dil (Mirza Ghalib) which is sung by Suraiyya. This very same Ghalib poetry was also sung by K L Saigal two decades earlier in 1933.

Here is this song song by K L Saigal. The music is composed by Pankaj Mullick and the movie is “Yahudi Ki Ladki” (1933). This movie had K L Saigal, Pahadi Sanyal,Radha Rani,Ratnabai, Munirbai etc in it.

Seeing that this song is from 1933, this is the oldest song in this blog (older than a few songs of 1934 that I had discussed in this blog in the past.

Song-Nukta cheen hai gham e dil (Yahudi Ki Ladki) (1933) Singer-K L Saigal, Lyrics-Ghalib, MD-Pankaj Mullick

Lyrics

aaa
aaa
nuktaacheen hai, gham-e-dil usko sunaaye na bane
kyaa bane baat jahaan baat banaaye na bane
kyaa bane baat jahaan baat banaaye na bane

main bulaataa to hoon usko magar ae jazbaa-e-dil
main bulaataa to hoon usko magar ae jazbaa-e-dil
us pe ban jaaye kuchh aisi
us pe ban jaaye kuchh aisi ki bin aaye na bane
us pe ban jaaye kuchh aisi ki bin aaye na bane
nuktaacheen hai, gham-e-dil usko sunaaye

bojh wo sar pe giraa aaa
bojh woh sar se giraa hai, ki uthaaye na uthe
kaam wo aan padaa hai ke banaaye na bane
kaam wo aan padaa hai ke banaaye na bane
nuktaacheen hai, gham-e-dil usko sunaaye

ishq par zor nahin
ishq par zor nahin hai ye wo aatish Ghaalib
ke lagaaye na lage
ke lagaaye na lage aur bujhaaye na bane
ke lagaaye na lage aur bujhaaye na bane
nuktaacheen hai, gham-e-dil usko sunaaye
