I have listened to a few memorably lullabies sung by Lata and also sung by Geeta Dutt. But I was not aware that both of them have sung the same lullaby in the same movie.

“Adl e Jahaangir” (1955) was the first movie directed by G P Sippy of “Sholay” (1975) fame. this movie had Pradeep Kumar and Meena Kumari in lead roles.

“Laila Majnu” (1953) is a movie that had Nutan and Shammi Kapoor in lead roles. Nutan made it big in Hindi movies soon, whereas Shammi Kapoor, who till then was struggling to find his feet, would finally re invent himself four years later.

While looking for K L Saigal songs, I came across this quintessentially K L Saigal song from “Tadbeer” (1945). It is a movie that I know little about, though.

I have remarked in the past that “Bhakt Surdas” (1942) is a treasure of great K L Saigal songs. Correction- It has great songs, not just by the great man, but also by the female lead of the movie. Yes, Khurshid, the female lead of this movie also shines with her singing in this movie.

When I saw the first line of the song, I thought it was the song from “Jurmaanaa” (1979), but then I found that this song was from an older movie called “Pyaar Ki Pyaas” (1961), which is a movie I knew nothing about.

I am back from the place where electricity and internet, (among many basic things in life) were at a premium. Hopefully I will be able to catch up with lost time. Just imagine being able to discuss just 18 songs in a week !

In common public perception, K L Saigal’s name is often associated with sad melancholic songs. But no artist confines himself/herself entirely to just one kind of songs. K L Saigal has sung songs of several genre.
