“Chhaliyaa” (1960) is a well known movie. In comparison, few people have heard of “Chhaliyaa” (1973). This movie had Navin Nischol, and an ageing Nanda, and the movie failed to achieve any great success at the box office.

When the lyrics and details of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra,I thought that he must have made a mistake as I have definitely posted this well known Rafi song in the blog. On checking, I found that I had not discussed this song, rather I had discussed the other well known song from this movie sung by Mukesh (Main dhoondhta hoon jinko ).

“Sheesha” (1952) is an obscure movie which was produced by Asian Picturs and it had actors like Sajjan,Nargis,Vimla,Amar,Achla Sachdev, Zebu, Anwari, Cuckoo, Majnu etc in it.
I have discussed three songs from this movie so far. Here is another song from this movi. This obscure song (at least for me) is sung by Lata. The song is written by an unknown lyricist called Umar Ansari. Music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad.

“Preet Ka Geet” (1950) is a movie that I became aware of only a few hours ago, when I discovered this song from this movie. Naturally, I became aware of the song too only just then. And what a lovely song it is !

Though most Hindi movies have their titles in Hindi/Urdu, there are cases when their titles are in pure English. Most of these movies tended to be B grade movies.

In olden days, men used to play the roles of women because it was not very easy to get women from decent background to appear in movies (and also dramas). Hopefully, they were able to get women to sing for themselves, I hope.

“Mausam” (1975) is a movie that is known as much for the acting of Sanjeev Kumar and Sharmila Tagore as for its music. Unfortunately Madan Mohan, the music director of the movie was not alive to see the success of this movie. For much of his life, movies embellished by his wonderful songs would bite the dust as the box office, and ironically, the movies released after his death, viz “Mausam” (1975) and “Laila Majnu” (1976) turned out to be hit movies riding on the music of these movies.
