Ban jaao tum mehmaan mere dil ke

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie songs and a regular contributor to this blog.
Fareb (1968) is a social drama, produced under the banner of Shri Om Productions, Bombay and directed by Jugal Kishore. The movie is regarded as a B/C grade production with the star lineup that includes Dev Kumar, Faryal, Maruti, Bela Bose, N Ansari, Heeralal, Rajan Haksar, Kundan, Sushma, besides others.
The film has seven songs, three of which are already posted here on this blog. Here is the fourth song from this film. The music composition is by Usha Khanna. The lyrics for this film have been written by Asad Bhopali and Javed Anwar. However, I have not been able to specifically identify the lyricist for this particular song.
The song is quintessential Bela Bose performance – a very fast paced duet sung by Hemlata and Krishna Kalle. On screen, the song is a performed by Bela Bose, and another actress whose identity I have not been able to ascertain. The YouTube post lists the second dancer as the actress Rani, but after checking couple of sources, I find that this name does not appear in the casting. I request knowledgeable readers to please confirm whether Rani is the correct identification of this actress.
The setting of the song appears to be a hotel bar room (maybe), and gambling is taking place openly. Dev Kumar is sitting at one of the tables, with two more men, who are recognizable as side actors, but once again I am not able to place a name to them. The song plays, and Bela Bose and her companion start the dance number. Dev Kumar looks at the dancing duo, as if amazed or maybe recognizes Bela Bose. He is distracted, and his partners in the card game gesture to him to bring his attention back to the game. Half way through the song, N Ansari makes an appearance, in a overcoat and felt hat, and sporting a pipe- looking every inch a police or CID officer in plain clothes. His eyes are searching for someone. His gaze rests on the bearded Dev Kumar, and it appears that he is trying to make an identification – probably Dev Kumar is the person he is searching for. As the song comes to a close, Ansari and his two sidekicks appear to have made up their mind and start moving, possibly towards Dev Kumar’s table. Alas the video clip end here so. . . 🙂
Enjoy this wonderful dance number on Usha Khanna’s music – and Bela Bose is sensuous and enchanting, as always.
ban jaao tum mehmaan mere dil ke
paaoge zindagi mujhse mil ke
Come, be a guest in my heart
In my company you will enjoy the vitality of life
mausam hai ye pyaar ka, pyaar ke iqraar ka
chup na raho, kuchh to kaho
It is the season of love, a season of acceptance of love
Silence is unwelcome, say something my love
dil mein hai rang-e-wafaa
mein bhi hoon naazuk adaa
aankhon se chhalke wafaa
My heart brims with many colours of love
All of me is just a delicate charming grace
My eyes speak only of love
mujhko bhi dil ki kasam
maan liyaa tumko sanam
kar bhi do thhoda karam
I swear upon my own heart, I have accepted you as my beloved
Favor me with a little benevolent grace
aayee hai rangeen ghataa
chhaayaa hai dil pe nashaa
sun bhi lo dil ki sadaaa
Colorful clouds of romance are in the air
A stupor of love pervades my heart
Oh please, listen to the beckoning of my heart
thhodi hai umr-e-rawaan
beete din aate kahaan
pyaasa dil pyaasi zubaan
The surge of life is but short one
And passing days, passing time will not return to us
A longing encompasses my heart, and my lips

Sudhirji
There is one dancer namely RAANI,
1)who featured in DIL DIYA DARD LIYA(in ashaji`s song “Rasia tu bada bedardi”(she plays Pran saab`s love interest),
2)same dancer is there in Phir wohi dil laya hoon(in the dance song “Dekho bijli dole bin baadal ke”with asha parekh)
3)Raani is there in Mere mehboob song(as a dancer with nimmi-in song” allha bachaaye naujawaanon se”)
4)Also she is there with madumathi in 1965 jaanwar for a mujra(aankhon aankhon)
5)and she is there in chetan anand`s Heer Ranjha.
but Raani looks different from the dancer who featured in this song,
May be in this movie because of a diffrent wig and black & white photography, Raani looks different.
