Tera jogi aayaa

“Mera Jeewan” (1976) is a “recent” movie by the standards of this blog. This movie was no great shakes at the box office, but its title song, viz Mera jeewan kuchh kaam na aaya was quite popular during its time, so much so that other songs of this movie were overshadowed as a result.
Here is another song from this movie. This song too had its run those days, and I remember hearing this song quite a few times, but unlike the title song of this movie, I was not aware at that time that this sonbg too belonged to “Mera Jeewan” (1976).
This song is sung by Rafi and Pankaj Mitra. Pankaj Mitra is someone I am not very familair with and his voice sounds similar to Narendra Chanchal, who used to sing quite a few songs (mostly beggars’ songs) those days. In fact, one remark in YT mentions that the record of this song mentions Narendra Chanchal as the singer instead of Pankaj Mitra. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
M G Hashmat is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sapan Jagmohan. Only the audio of this song is available, but from the sounds of it, this song appears to be a beggars’ song to me.

PS-Now, thanks to Peevsie’s Mom, I know that the video of this song is also available. The video shows that the song is picturised on Vidya Sinha and a man whose identity is not as yet fully established. 🙂

This song reminds me of another similiar melodious song(fakir baba like song)sung by rafiji and chorus in 1981, anu malik venture(picturised on character artiste SUDHIR and poonam dhillon,raj babbar)

PANKAJ MITRA was a popular Bengali singer,specialising in Boat Songs.
He was one of the popular members of the IPTA group,where Bengali music directors like Anil Biswas and Salil Chaudhari were regulars.He sang many songs in Hindi films like,Rihai,Grihapravesh Kinara,Sagina,Sautela Bhai,Gangadham,Mera jeevan,Phagun etc.
His most popular song was,perhaps,with Kishore Kumar in Sagina-‘Saalaa main to sahab ban gayaa….’

Yes, I have discussed the Sagina song “saala main to saahab ban gaya” already, but I had forgotten that Pankaj Mitra’s voice was also there in that song.

Love this Fakirwala song. Specially the part that Rafi sings – “Main Janoo Tu Jaane …….” (Like Prakashji) Only Rafi could sing like that.

the actor lip syncing with Rafi seems to be Ram Mohan (veteran of hundreds of movies) and Pankaj Mitra’s voice is for the actor who has played a paanwala (according to me) in countless movies god knows what his name was.

I don`t think it is ram mohan.
I don`t know the name of the guy who lip syncs for the first half of the song, But he appears in many song & dance sequences of late sixteis and early seventies as a main co dancer, who dances alongwith hero.

On the CD cover, the name of the movie was spelt as
“MERA JIVAN”starring Dushyant,Vidya sinha, Ambika Johar(whether she is famous character artiste I.s.Johar`s Daughter, who appeared in
5 rifles(1974)& Nasbandi(1978)(both directed by I.s.JOhar)???

Thanks for the video link. The video’s of other songs of this movie which we were looking for e.g. “mera jeevan kuch kaam na aaya’ and ‘koyi mere haathon mein mehndi lgaa de” are now available on youtube. They all are December 6, 7, 8 upload’s . When i was looking for the song ‘mera jeewan kuch kaam na aaya” i found the audio of this song “Mera jogi aayaa” which i had heard before.

Jogi is not same as beggar.Jogi is like a spiritual person who gave up worldly comfort and is living on whatever alms he gets just for survival.He spends all his time in thinking about God.Somewhat similar to monks.Beggar is someone who does not have what a person would want for decent living.
Jogi word is sometimes used as a generic name for someone who is preoccupied his lover (just like real jogi with God) and has no interest in anybody else.
Women are called jogan. Meera Bai was called Jogan.She was interested only in Krishna.
Hope that we do not demote Jogi/Jogan!
