Ae jee maine kaha suniye to zaraa

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

A film with the name ‘Baadshah’ was released in 1954, with music by Shankar Jaikishan. Three songs from this film are already posted on this blog. And then, in 1964, there is another film released by the same name. Produced under the banner of Navkala Niketan, the film is directed by Chandrakant Gaur. The lyrics are from the pen of Anand Bakshi, and the music compositions are by N Dutta. The film is a stunt costume drama with the cast of actors including Dara Singh, Nishi, Kumari Rani, Tiwari, Rajan Haksar, Kehsav Rana, Radheyshyam, Kumud Tripathi, Uma Khosla, Mumtaz Begum, Rafique Sultana, Shiela Devi, Shamina, Kesari etc.

The song is rendered by Asha ji, in her inimitable delightful style. Based on the list of actors, my guess is that on screen, the song is performed by Kumari Rani. I request other knowledgeable readers to please confirm or correct this guess. She is addressing her words to a very annoyed looking Dara Singh. The lady is feeling full of glee, having someway offended her lover. The ‘incredible hulk’ is sulking and has a very annoyed look on his face, and is making all efforts to leave the company of the lady in pursuit. And of course, the lady is thoroughly enjoying herself, adding to the predicament of the gentleman. Poor men folk, they may be Dara Singh and Robin Hood in the eyes of the world, but in the matter of heart, the lady love has them wrung around her fingers, without so much as a by-your-leave from the ‘hulk’ in question. The enjoyment being felt by the lady is so well expressed in the voice of Asha ji and the verve that accompanies it.

Enjoy this another naughty and delightful song, rendered by Asha ji, and composed by N Dutta.

ae ji mein ne kahaa
suniye to zaraa
ik baat zaraa si
chaley jaanaa kar ke ji mulaqaat zaraa si

O my dear
Listen for a moment
A small prayer from me
Leave if you must
But please, be with me, talk to me
Maybe just a little bit

khusiyaan nahin to gham de jaao
kaise guzaregi bina kisi yaad ke
lambi hoti hai furqat ki raat zaraa si

Pray leave behind sad memories
If you wish not to bestow any happiness
For life would be difficult
With no memories at all
The nights of separation
Are painfully long
Maybe just a little bit
(NOTE: furqat = separation, parting)

dil ke chaman se pyaar ka baadal
bina barsey hi kyaa guzar jaayegaa
jaate jaate ho jaaye barsaat zaraa si

These clouds of love
Will they pass by the garden of heart
Without even a sprinkle
Pray as these clouds pass by
Let there be a drizzle
Maybe just a little bit

thhukraate ho mere dil ko
aisa na ho ye dil toot jaaye
naazuk hai haseenon ki zaat zaraa si

Pray don’t spurn my heart
What if it may be shattered
The maidens of beauty
They are fragile and delicate
Maybe just a little bit

Lyrics

ae ji maine kahaa
suniye to zaraa
ae ji maine kahaa
suniye to zaraa
ik baat zaraa si
chaley jaanaa kar ke ji
mulaqaat zaraa si
ae ji mein ne kahaa
suniye to zaraa
ik baat zaraa si
chaley jaanaa kar ke ji
mulaqaat zaraa si

khusiyaan nahin to
gham de jaao
khusiyaan nahin to
gham de jaao
kaise guzaregi bina kisi yaad ke
kaise guzaregi bina kisi yaad ke
lambi hoti hai furqat ki raat zaraa si
ho o o
ae ji maine kahaa
suniye to zaraa
ik baat zaraa si
chaley jaanaa kar ke ji mulaqaat zaraa si

dil ke chaman se
pyaar ka baadal
dil ke chaman se
pyaar ka baadal
bina barsey hi kyaa guzar jaayegaa
bina barsey hi kyaa guzar jaayegaa
jaate jaate ho jaaye barsaat zaraa si
ho o o
ae ji mein ne kahaa
suniye to zaraa
ik baat zaraa si
chaley jaanaa kar ke ji
mulaqaat zaraa si

thhukraate ho
mere dil ko

aisa na ho ye dil toot jaaye
aisa na ho ye dil toot jaaye
naazuk hai haseenon ki zaat zaraa si
ho o o

ae ji mein ne kahaa
