Tang aa chuke hain kashmakash e zindagi se ham

Posted on: January 17, 2012

“Pyaasa” (1957) is a movie which touched the heart strings of the movie goers. It is the story of an artist who does not get his due in his life time but rich tributes are paid to him when he is presumed dead. But when he re appears again among his admirers, people who benefitted from his “death” are discomfited.

The songs of this movie played a huge part in immortalising the movie and bringing moviegoers to the movie halls. Even otherwise, the songs of “Pyaasa” (1957) have become immortal on their own.

I have discussed as many as eight songs from “Pyaasa” (1957). Here is yet another song from the movie. This song is a “stage” song sung by Guru Dutt when he reappears from the “dead” much to the chagrin of the beneficiaries of his death, viz Mala Sinha.

This song is sung by Rafi. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. This is a song with hardly any music but the little music that is there serves to emphasise the irony and poignancy of the situation. S D Burman is the music director.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

Song-Tang aa chuke hain kashmakash e zindagi se ham (Pyaasa)(1957) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)

tang aa chuke hain
kashmakash-e-zindagi se ham
tang aa chuke hain
kashmakash-e-zindagi se ham
thukraa na de jahaan ko kahin
be-heesi se ham

ham gham zadaa hain
laayen kahaan se khushi ke geet
kahaan se khushi ke geet
denge wohi jo paayenge
iss zindagi se ham
denge wohi jo paayenge
iss zindagi se ham

ubhrenge ek baar
abhi dil ke walwale
abhi dil ke walwale
maana ke dab gaye hain
gham-e-zindagi se ham
maana ke dab gaye hain
gham-e-zindagi se ham

lo aaj ham ne tod diyaa
aaa aaa
lo aaj ham ne tod diyaa
rishtaa-e-ummeed
rishtaa-e-ummeed
lo ab kabhi gilaa na karenge
kisi se ham
lo ab kabhi gilaa na karenge
kisi se ham

Yes, it is the same ghazal, used in continuation from this “Pyaasa” version to the “Light House” version. May be Sahir Ludhianvi felt this ghazal deserved a sequel.
