“Hum Paanch” (1980) was a S K Films Enterprises production. It was produced by Surinder Kapoor and directed by Bapu. The movie had an impressive cast consisting of Sanjeev Kumar, Kanhaiyyalal, Naseeruddin Shah, Mithun Chakraborty, Raj Babbar, Geeta Siddharth, Shabana Azmi, Uday Chandra,Deepti Naval, Gulshan Grover, Amrish Puri, Aruna Irani, A.K.Hangal, Roopesh Kumar, Sunder, C.S.Dubey, Harjeet, Dulari, Ranjeet Sood, Komal Soni, Gurbachan, Sunita, Dev Sharma, Suman, Meghdoot, Yasmin, Vinod, Jamboora, Aditya Sharma, Jugal Kishore, Amir Ali, Yusuf, Raju, C.L.Shah, Kalpana Iyer, Leena Das, Phiroza Cooper, Sujata Bakshi etc.
I had watched the movie during its opening run and I was neither impressed with the movie not with its music. But I was in a minority, because the movie as well as the music of the movie became popular with the movie goers.
Today (3 july) is the birthday of Amit Kumar. On this occasion, here is a duet from “Hum Paanch” (1980). It is sung by Amit Kumar and Lata. It is picturised on Mithun Chakraborty and Dipti Nawal.
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

This movie was a remake of famous Kannada Movie “Paduvaarahalli Paandavaru”(aka Pandavaas of a village named Paduvaara Halli)
(1978)(with many changes in the story plot-Sanjeev kumar`s role was not that much in the Kannada movie.In kannada movie Sanjeev kumar`s god like role was not there.Instead of that one Temple pontiff/Seer or Major priest/Swamiji`s role was there)
Kannada movie was an adaption of famous kannada literary story(I am not very sure, but I have read about that It is a story of Jadabharata or Rao Bahdur)Please anyone know the writer of the original kannada movie.That kannada movie was directed by Late.S.R.Puttanna Kanagaal, who was a famous director down south.
He made a Hindi movie called “Zehreela Insaan”(starring Rishi kapoor, which was in fact a remak of His movie Naagara Haavu).He was an assistant director of Shammi Kapoor movie “Dil Tera Deewana”and He was a close associate of Kapoor family.On that basis, he influenced thespian Late Prithviraaj kapoor to act in a Kannada movie called
“Saakshathkara”(With kannada matinee ido Late Raj Kumar).S.R.Puttanna Kanagal used to adapt famous novels into his path breaking Kannada Movies.

The Kannada film was based on the story of its director the famous Puttanna Kanagal,as per the HFGK.
This was also remade in Telugu as ‘Manavoori Pandavulu’,directed by the pair of Bapu-Ramana,in 1978.
This film was a modern version of Mahabharata,where 5 men and a woman fight the feudal,unjust rich powerful family of the village.
