Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Gulmohar gar tumhaara naam hota

Posted on: September 6, 2012

Today (6 september) is the birthday of Rakesh Roshan, better known as the father of Hrithik Roshan and even better known as the son of music director Roshan. 🙂

Rakesh Roshan had a chequered career as an actor in Hindi movies. In comparison, his brother Rakesh Roshan had a reasonable stint as a music director.

Rakesh Roshan began his acting career in 1971. That was the time when Rajesh Khanna’s charisma was at its peak. And it was not very difficult to notice that Rakesh Roshan aped the style and mannerisms of Rajesh Khanna. He was not alone in doing so, of course.

It is curious to note that

(1) Rakesh Roshan acted opposite Hema Malini in his earlier days as an actor in the movie “Paraaya Dhan”(1971).

(2) He became a producer and director after he realised that his acting career was going nowhere. His Filmkraft Film corporation was a reasonable success.

(3) The titles of all the movies produced by him began with the letter “K” ! So Rakesh Roshan was the original “K” person, and not the Czarina of Balaji Telefilms.

(4) Rakesh Roshan actually had thick locks of hair on his head those days !

“Devta”(1978) was a Prithvi Pictures production. It was directed by S Ramnathan. The movie had Sanjeev Kumar, Shabana Azmi, Rakesh Roshan, Sarika, Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Danny Asit Sen, Babbanlal Yadav, Shivraj, Azad, Viju Khote, Major Anand, Vijay Kumar, Hyder, Dhumal, Keshto Mukherjee, Datta Keshav, Sheetal, Makrani, Debie Prasad, Taj, Master Sandeep etc in it.

This movie was the tale of Sanjeev Kumar and Shabana Azmi. Where did Rakesh Roshan fit in ? He, alongwith Sarika formed the RSP (Romantic side plot) of this movie. 🙂 I have not seen the movie so I cannot comment on the fact whether this RSP gets on the nerves of the movie goers the way the CSP (Comical side plot) of a few earlier movies (Mehmood, Shubha Khote and Dhumal) often did.

On the occasion of “Rakesh Roshan’s 63th birthday (He was born on 6 september 1949), here is a romantic duet from “Devta”” (1978). The song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata. The song is picturised on Rakesh Roshan, Sarika, Shabana Azmi and Danny.

Gulzar is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Lovely and unusual lyrics by Gulzar. 🙂 I love this song.

Happy birthday Rakesh Roshan. I must say there are plenty of celebrations going on this month on the blog! 🙂

We have become conscious of these anniversaries now a days. With so many movie personalities to deal with, we have a few anniversaries almost every day of the year. 🙂
