Posted on: September 23, 2012

Today (23 september) is the birthday of Kedar Nath Bahttacharya, who is known to music lovers as Kumar Sanu. Kumar Sanu made his debut as a playback singer in Hindi movies in 1987 with “Aandhiyaan” (1987). He shot to fame with the songs of “Aashiqui” (1990) which became a rage with music lovers.

Kumar Sanu holds the record of winning five consecutive Filmfare awards for best male playback singer for Aashiqui (1990), Saajan (1991), Deewana (1992), Baazigar (1993), and 1942- A Love Story (1994).

On the occasion of his birthday, here is a song from “Ye hai Mumbai Meri Jaan” (1999). This song is sung by Kumar Sanu and it is picturised on Saif Ali Khan and Twinkle Khanna. Indeewar is the lyricist and music is composed by Jatin Lalit.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

this pair reminds me of his mother and her father …acted in few very well known films together. Sad part is none of their offspings come close to their respective parent, besides, there is absolutely no chemistry between them plus substandard acting by both.

Kumar Sanu’s first song was for R D Burman’s Yeh Desh (1984) when he was known as Shanu Bhattacharya. May be he is ashamed that he sang 2 lines more like as a part of chorus with Udit Narayan, etc and they didnt even use his part in the picturization, and so he avoids mentioning this on his own website, from which Wiki got its info and made it to here subsequently. But in numerous interviews, when confronted by people, he has admitted to this by saying “haan par wo to ek hi line gaaya tha”. In any case, his name is on the soundtrack of Yeh Desh and his voice in that group song from the movie. There is a reason he has been a history for almost a decade now besides the fact that he “lost” his voice a while ago.

Sadly he is suffering from throat cancer.
