Today (27 september) is the 8th death anniversary of Shobha Gurtu (8 february 1925- 27 september 2004). Born as Bhanumati Shirodkar, Shobha Gurtu earned her fame as a leading Thumri singer of her time. She became Shobha Gurtu after marrying Vishwanath Gurtu.
Shobha Gurtu has sung a few songs in Hindi and Marathi movies. This blog at present has just one song sung by her. That song is Dil hai haazir leejiye le jaaiye (Sajjo Rani).
On this occasion, here is another song sung by Shobha Gurtu. This song is from “Chowki No. 11″(1978). This movie was produced by Siddhartha/ Kuki and directed by V K Sobti. The movie had Vinod Mehra, Zarina Wahab, Jagdeep, Amjad Khan, Kader Khan, Aruna Irani, Katy Mirza etc in it.
The song is a mujra song. The lyrics are suitably low brow, naughty. The colourful lyrics are written by Pt Vishweshwar Sharma. Music is composed by Sonik Omi.
The mujra is performed by Zarina Wahab, who makes for a very convincing tawaif out to entertain low class clients.
This song as well as the movie failed to click during its time. But now, with the benefit of hindsight, one mus say that the song, considering its genre, is superbly rendered, written , set to music and performed.

Thank you Atulji for the posting and for all(all most all the lyrics are written by yourself ) the corrections in the lyrics,
The tag should have been “Lyrics provided by Atul ji” 🙂
Since I am from Non-hindi speaking region, I always find myself very poor at grasping the nuances of Hindi langauage and Hindi langauge songs.
Sudhir ji aur nahmji se tution lenaa padegaa 🙂
